Well, you see. No one actually knows. We can just speculate. We assume that it has to do with the Govn't in Turkey being biased towards Islam, and the Military wants it to be secular. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Turkey has a long tradition of military coups and it's happening again.

The majority of the people support Erdogan who was democratically elected, so they took to the streets at his request to stop the coup.

Turkey is the most Western-like thing we have in that region, key to fighting Terrorism and other malignant things.
It's geo-location is very important, and the Military are more allied with the West as opposed to Erdogan.
