i can only imagine what godlike shit psi tech could've done now that chezburger has hindsight up his sleeve
honestly probably not much different, i don't remember too much stuff in detail now but i'd imagine maybe a couple of structure differences in the organization and, honestly, sticking to like one fucking outpost because Doctor Chad'Vurr-Ahm, Scientist of The Resistance did not need a football field sized laboratory

There was a lot of red tape keeping me from going absolutely bonkers which was probably a good thing (teleporter), i still think a lot of the psi-tech stuff was fun but there were the occasional weird moments that, yes, with hindsight i'd probably change

oAW4FXb.png

here's a good example, if i recall this was going to be some sort of shoulder mounted auto-turret
nobody would have liked that, except me, because all i thought of was how cool it would have looked

here's a screenshot of that one time the kobayashi and the railroad had a meeting and i was politely asked to be an emergency suicide bomber in a large crate just incase things got out of hand

I imagine this was sort of the contingency plan for Tel'Vurr if things went south

the only real things i remember from psi tech was the field lab in the bottom of the sewer on city 8 and how tel'vurr canonically has a storage of reddit posts including peter griffin memes

and the defense against that one OTA raid for the rogue cabinet member

kinda miss doing science fiction techno-babble roleplay sometimes
I definitely want a good scene of this in After-Life. We have plans to support research and we'd also like to line up development that can be added when milestones are researched by the community so there'd an actual impact on the world.

On top of the normal roleplay impact that happens.

the duality of vurr

incredibly silly or incredibly violent

I actually remember hurling a converted hopper mine over the wall and fucking hitting one of them, of course it did fuck-all damage because it's OTA but it was still hilarious

All this talk of greenie sciences reminds me of the wacky stuff I got up to on my first vort in HL2RP2. There were a handful of IC items I made, some seeing more use than others.

1. Scrap metal harpoon forged via Vortessence, with copper lining its haft in a spiralling fashion - latter feature allowing it to be propelled at greater force when subjected to strong electromagnetic current, which a vortigaunt could readily produce.

2. Glass orb with inner fractals, forming a prism that can be used to concentrate Vortessence. Actually had an earlier "prototype" version made from scrap glass, but it broke when I did a hail mary vortisignal to prevent the Gonarch from stomping us in rp_apocalypse.

3. Handheld scanner made from bunch of Xen bits harvested here and there (including sensory organs of an Ichthyosaur. Basically a catch-all device for analyzing anything that displayed a sprawling spiral of text in Vortigese, though not requiring flux-shift to understand.

Then, there were stuff I made/scavenged that didn't end up seeing particular use.

4. Big battery made from scrap materials that could be charged with Vortessence. Basically just a power supply in case it was ever needed - which it wasn't, unsurprisingly.

5. Random bits and bobs; pieces from an Antlion Guardian, metrocop suit electronics, vort shackles, maybe something else.

6. Neural hijacker, fashioned from the central nervous system of a zombie with the headcrab brain bits still attached. The idea was to use it to possess the Controller in Odessa (because my vortigaunt is really not a big fan of those creatures) and probably semi-retire the character and become a background figure. I got proper worried bc it wasn't authorized by the time the mapchange event, causing me to message ARK in panic till he told me this wouldn't be the last time we'd see the creature.
Well, it would wind up being the last I saw the creature, but that's semantics. Funny to think back on, though.

Rest assured that, if my schedule can take the prime hours of After-Life server, I'll be up to more vortigaunt shenanigans.
Though I will apologize to @Numbers and @Appetite Ruining Kebab for them having to entertain all that silly stuff I listed above in a forum convo meant to track my shenanigans on that character.

Who has that old video from the big desert event where my vort got absolutely lit the fuck up by like half the rebels

I remember it well. I'd been allowed in and around the main 'city' they had as my vort, getting on surprisingly well with a bunch of CPs. Since there was essentially an 'armistice' we weren't constantly fighting each other, and they were genuinely really chill. The people inside the city were struggling, but the CPs seemed to really be trying to help them out.

Then, there's his huge attack on the city spurred on by the rebels. Swarming the gates, and this is after the mines were laid out all around (which plenty of people had lots of fun with). I made sure to help people get inside, safe and out of the violence, since my vort just didn't really want there to be much in the way of pointless death, and started helping shooting back at the attackers alongside some of the CPs.

@linntrix adminmessaged me basically telling me to cut it the fuck out and that vorts weren't allowed to do that (I still disagree with that to this day, they aren't a rebel-puppet and should be able to choose their allies even if they're combine). I stopped, basically left the city during the assault, and somehow found @Antloin 's archivist character out in the desert, injured. I stick with him, and take him back to the rebel base knowing full well everyone there would be pissed off at me, and then after delivering him there to be saved, my vort got shredded

Looking back, yeah my character died, but man what a fucking way to go

rationality is no basis for the actions a character takes

the world is round, yet some deluded people believe otherwise

any vortigaunt could believe the Combine are there to help them

they'd be wrong, but they can believe it

they are telephatically linked !!! they are feeling their kin getting siphoned like batteries and the sponge scrubbing shite off toiletbowl on live vortivision!! if it was any other race / person i would agree but there is no reason for vortigaunts

I suppose it's possible to just torture and mentally obliterate a Vortigaunt to the point of delusion.

Thing is, it was a very grey situation. It wasn't an allegiance thing with the Combine, it was a desire to reduce as much innocent death as possible. Rebels were storming the city, and not just your average John Lambda or Bob Good but genuine militaristic insurgents with a penchant for brutality and a just-as authoritatian reign up their sleeves.

A vort may be able to share that telepathic link and see those memories, but why would a creature with such a vast amount of knowledge let themselves become blinded with rage and hate? There was no vortessence harvesting facilities in that little barely-city, and the Civil Protection there absolutely could've just gatted me. But, they didn't, and we even shared some nice conversations and trust.

Its a reminder that Civil Protection are also just humans in a tight spot. It isn't about the Combine, it's about feeling sympathy for people locked in a regime and unable to leave without dire consequences. Some are more brutal, of course, but I'd see vortigaunts as genuinely having some empathy for Civil Protection and other Synths under the Combine's control

Brain drilling disconnects them from the Vortessence.
