Well, it severely decreases the pH level of your metabolism. It represses the nervous system, making you feel sleepy, tired and hazy. It's the temporary sugar and caffeine that boosts your mood. Though metabolic acidosis isn't nice, it does prevent anxiety.
I didn't really understand 25-50-75% of what you just said. And you don't believe in 'medicine'. How can you be so smart, man? And still not like medicine? Medicine that actually helps and doesn't get you addicted.. at all? ;P
I take them at 150 milligram a day, because apparently, when you get prescribed anti-depressives for depression, you get them at a MUCH lower dosage. But when you get prescribed anti-depressives for OCD, you apparently usually need to have a MUCH higher dosage. Not sure how it works, though.
But yeah, I get them for my OCD, of course. But this is because there is really not any 'real' way of treating OCD. This is like, the only way, except therapy.. and these meds only make it EASIER to resist your OCD urges/compulsions or w/e the hell they're called in English. Also they reduce a lot of those urges/compulsions (or w/e, etc., etc.).
Sertraline is often used because of your age. We don't want you to get dependant and we want to ease you off of them when you show improvement; so we don't jump straight to Diazepam and we prescribe lower dosages.
I have a psychiatrist, he knows how mental disorders work and how medicine works when it comes to such cases. It's VERY different from how you treat undiagnosed people (as in, people with no mental disorders and/or disabilities).
Eve, you deny scientific facts. Don't tell a doctor he doesn't know about medicine :c
I mean I can't tell shit, I'm a molecular biologist but even then we have to know how /anatomy/ works. That's how any branch of science that deals with living things work.
Yes, but psychiatrists are like educated within both psychology and medicine, et cetera. They are VERY highly educated doctors and are extremely busy because of it, you can only get like one appointment every few months or so, from them. At least it's like that here.
Also, uhm.. they do less the work of a psychologist, they are actually more like doctors, but specialized, specifically they mostly take care of medicinal things and talk to you in order to find out more and to be able to decide what kind of medicine you'll need, if you need to up or lower your dosage, et cetera, et cetera.
It's not like prescribing medicine to people who have no 'mental' diagnosises, and it's not like treating normal physical illnesses. It's not even as simple as treating depression, most people are probably capable of being/becoming depressed. I bet they handle such, too.. but mostly it's more specialized work, that they do.
1st of all, I've gone to psychologists, psychiatrists and the like ever since I was 7 years old. I think at least a FEW of them have known what they're doing. Plus, I've taken Sertralin for years. If I stopped now, I'd be a LOT more moody and I think even quite a bit more down or angrier. But it's mainly for my OCD, really.
2nd of all, anatomy is one thing, but the mentality and mind is another. I have inherited mental disorders, as it runs in my family. Being even a REGULAR, fully educated doctor and being a psychiatrist are VERY different things. There is a reason normal doctors don't listen to you and can't help you when you come to them with your psycholgical/mental issues, especially when they're inherited.
They're not specialized in such, nor how to treat it. That's not what they educated themselves for. Psychiatrists are a type of doctor that specializes in these sort of matters, though, I think.
Here's the thing. Anyone who deals with /Any/ branch of Biology (this includes Medicine) at one point in their education they learn about these. For instance I'm a student of Molecular Biology and Genetics. I'll NEED to learn about medicine as a WHOLE, so I know what's what.
Same goes for let's say a Neurologist. They may not be a Marine Biologist, but they learn about those at a point.
So, a Dentist who's had training and experience in medicine /WILL/ know MORE than someone who's just been to a psychiatrist a lot.
