Hey! No worries. If you press on the envelope icon in your top bar a dropdown menu will appear. There should be a button saying 'Start new Conversation'. Click that. Include Me, Rictalspace and Toasty in the conversation. There currently is no format. Feel free to create your own.

Should I add a back story for my character in there?

I highly suggest adding that, as its pretty much the most relevant to the application.
