Toho is only distributing it. It's produced by Makoto Shinkai and his team. The movie did well, being the first anime movie (That is not Studio Ghibli) to reach the 10bn Yen mark in under a month.

And that boy is a student, but he has like a part time/saturday job as a waiter.
