Preface
This may seem more serious than most threads posted here, but I feel I should share this. I did not write this, I simply translated from my late Grandfather's mother tongue into English. He sadly passed away today due to complications related to pneumonia, just as his father did before him. Could be Corona? Who knows. All I know is that he was a man who dedicated himself to love and to his family, a man who cared for his neighbour and helped whoever he could. Some segments may have little meaning but I did not wish to interpret his words out of fear of wronging them. I hope you enjoy these reflections of a veteran and ex-Freemason.

Question for the study of the great Autumn Chapter:

"Equality without love is platitude, justice without love is an insult to life, the equality of
love is the only justice."
The love we are talking about comes from the Latin Caritas whose meaning is tenderness, affection mixed with respect. In the triptych Faith, Hope, Charity displayed at the entrance of the temple it is necessary
understand that Charity means Love, Charity formerly having a much broader meaning
than today.

Equality without love would be platitude. Let us remember the motto of Freemasonry:
Liberty, Equality, fraternity which goes back to the revolution just like the republican motto of
same name and remembered in a blue box at the start of each outfit. The revolutionaries
had joined the fraternity to equality because they had no doubt understood that one was not right
without the other. Ideas from the philosophers of the Age of Enlightenment.

The opposite of love is hate and between these two feelings we find indifference,
For those who are indifferent, equality is a hot dish that has just arrived and is used
without thinking that it can disappear at the mercy of ambitious people whose only concern is power and money.

Justice without love is an insult to life. Traditionally, justice, symbolic divinity, was shown with a sword in his hand, a balance in the other and a band over the eyes. A sad image that comes from antiquity because how to do justice with a blindfold over the eyes? Yet Plato already defined the just man as subordinating his needs to his heart and his heart to his reason. And Christian Charity recommended to love your neighbour like yourself and said "you will not kill". Advances in Justice advance slowly.

European states, except for Russia, have abolished the death penalty. This is a considerable step forward that some states in North America have not yet followed any more than China which reimburses the family for the bullet used to execute the condemned man. Fairness in justice is good, but the enforcement of sentences is another, and this one in French prisons is condemned by the European community, which suggests that the Homeland for Human Rights has progress to be made and that we are all responsible somewhere. Relentless American justice, one of the most
old democracy of the world, with all its daily errors announced never stops to make me grieve.

That said my board is not finished, it is still full of holes and I will try again to think deeply. In the meantime I request the extenuating circumstances and delay.

I have told, Y.B

God damn, a veteran AND a Freemason? Quite the accomplishment. And my condolences to you my friend. The words he has written are seriously worthy of a book itself
