Hii everyone!
I’ve been meaning to start this discussion for a while, and now I finally got the chance to. The reason I'm making this thread is because I’d really like to see a return to a normal HL2RP server, not some experimental futuristic concept (like After-Life) @PepicWalrus . I’m not saying this out of nostalgia, but, as I previously mentioned, because Half Life already has a rich story that allows for so much creativity while staying true to cityrp.

I don’t get it, why not focus on improving and refining what’s already there instead of overhauling the entire thing?

traditional HL2RP has been done for 15-odd years now.

every other server is doing traditional HL2RP

i think it's fair for folks to want to try new things

What servers are you talking about? There are only 3 servers out there, and two of them are voice rp with barely any roleplay happening. Then there’s Willard, but that looks nothing like a traditional HL2RP.

Believe it or not, nobody is going to buy the lie of "oppression is roleplay, let me beat you for carrying 15 plastic - this is "good" roleplay, you will enjoy it", not anymore. People who used to play old HL2RP grew up, realized it was all bullshit, and stopped wasting their time.

New generation of HL2RP players (can't believe I am saying that) is the one that grew up playing impulse gamemode servers, which is basically DarkRP but HL2RP. Their understanding of the rollenspiel is flawed, where they are suffering from the same shit as mentioned above - arresting people is roleplay; this time people can easily acquire guns without having to farm rations for an entire month, and kill the cop that arrested them and then 20 more.

At least they're not suffering from the OTA elitism, coupled with nazi runes being plastered on a roster lmfao

First of all, HL2RP doesn't have to be defined by just "let me beat you for carrying 15 plastic." That's honestly such a dumb thing to say.
Second, don’t generalize, because I personally don’t see it as a waste of time, and I’m very sure there are others who feel the same way.
I don’t want to sound repetitive, but Half-Life 2 has a lot of interesting elements, and its world is so unique that you can do a lot with it. It just depends on whether you're creative or not.

As for the new generation you mentioned, they would definitely jump into a traditional HL2RP server if it was done right. I did it myself. I used to play semi-serious servers until I discovered Nebulous and realized you could actually develop your character and shape the story, rather than just running around and shooting. With an engaging storyline and ongoing development from the team, it becomes something much more. Just look at the Russian servers as an example. They’ve been running what I’d call a traditional server for years, just like we did, and they're still going strong with a good amount of playerbase.

this community has been doing the same shit for like 15 years now counting with LemonPunch, let it die out or at least do something different for once

why are you suddenly showing up and bombarding me with messages, anyway..

I honestly HATE to repeat myself, but looking at some of you here, I just have to. There are Russian HL2RP servers that have been doing this for just as long as Nebulous did, and it’s going very well for them. I understand that some of you may feel burnt out after years of involvement, and that’s valid. But saying it’s “over” ignores the simple fact that RP communities go through cycles. What fades can come back if given the right leadership and direction. Just because something has declined doesn’t mean it can’t.. evolve? or be revitalized.

Something different? Hmm let me think what you mean by that. OOOOH.. you mean the failed Outland iteration that used maps like rp_asheville and rp_southside, maps made for entirely different gamemodes, along with constant shootouts happening that made it feel more like a CSGO match, if anything.
Oh and i almost forgot how much of a pain it was to actually roleplay with anyone, since people were more focused on causing the next shootout. The events were vague and poorly thought out. they existed just to keep people from getting bored.

if that’s what you mean by “something different,” then I don’t want it.

russian hl2rp is vastly different though and i don't know if it'd really call it 'strong', they get a lot of players yes but the quality is questionable. the scene is also more different.
hunk is right though you basically missed the party - on english hl2rp anyway. it's basically all locked servers now, or willard/undetermined of which both are vastly different in quality. It's over Johnny. It's over!

From what I have seen, even though I don't understand the language, the quality of the server is pretty great. Also, I'm not sure what "scene" you're referring to, but it bears a strong resemblance to Nebulous, it looks very similar to the early iterations of Neb.
However, that's not my main point. What I find impressive is that they managed to keep it alive and engaging while still maintaining a daily player count of 60, sometimes even close to 100. If they can do it there, why can’t we achieve the same here?
