As the title says, make it so player owned vehicles that have been purchased properly through PDM or any other future vehicle dealership (possibly rented vehicles as well) unable to be stolen with a lockpick. I don't know if there's plans to make stronger lockpicks or anything in the future, but ideally player owned vehicles would either be impossible to or much more difficult to be picked.

The reason I argue this as a feature is that there's already a plethora of locally sourced vehicles lying around waiting to be stolen if someone needs a ride, and the concept of saving up/working up to being able to buy your own vehicle, which is a fairly lucrative investment, only to park it outside of Burger Shot for 5 minutes and have it stolen immediately would be quite frustrating. The whole process of having to go and track it down afterwards would be really annoying, especially if it's totaled and you then have to fork out the cash to have it towed and repaired.

I don't think it would hamper other people's gameplay to much too not be able to steal 1 out of every 100 cars they see on the streets. There's still a ton they can discreetly steal for their own personal transportation if they're in a bind, and it would prevent a lot of frustrating situations that would ultimately make buying your own car feel almost meaningless and unrewarding.

I still think it should be possible to steal a player owned vehicle in certain situations. If you leave your engine running with the doors unlocked, there shouldn't be anything stopping someone from taking it. I personally think it would be nice if you at least needed some kind of justification to steal their personal vehicle since, as I've mentioned before, there's no shortage of cars in the city, but I understand some people might disagree with this idea and so I'm open to some compromises here and there so long as the general premise remains that if you're being smart about keeping your car secure it should be either impossible or hard to have it stolen.

Our plan isn't to prevent the theft of player owned vehicles entirely as we think that would be a very negative outcome in the long run, but we do agree and previously had ideas for more advanced forms of security that would purchasable through Benny's.

It's definitely not a problem we were unaware of and are looking into options to keep it as a viable option with much higher difficulty.

Personally I can say when I steal a player's vehicle, it's to get back at them and to make it inconvenient for them, not because I need a car.
Like you said, there are dozens of local cars that I could take (likely faster and with better handling).

How would you feel if there was an upgrade you could buy for your car that made it harder to lockpick and required the (eventually coming™) advanced lockpick/hacking tool?

I suppose I would be alright with this to a point. Being harder to steal at the very least would be good, just to avoid having your own personal vehicle stolen constantly. I still don't really like the idea of it too much but I understand how it would inhibit a lot of situations adversely.

I hope not, it sucks if someone went through all the effort and tracking the car down, waiting for the opportune moment, breaking into it, disposing of it, there's a lot of time and risk involved where you could get caught in the act, jailed or killed and robbed... and the owner can just talk to an NPC to get their car back in pristine condition, no repairs or nothing, no transportation fee, etc

I don't think so, I think I forgot to park my bicycle back one day and now it's gone :(

I just feel as though if you're going to go through all the effort to buy your own personal vehicle that it should have some additional perks and protections you don't get out of a normal vehicle. Having to fully tow and repair your car after it's been stolen and destroyed can be very costly, and I still feel like this would generally be an annoying situation to have to deal with. There's plenty of ways to get back at people, I feel like this one in particular would probably just piss me off more than anything.

if players own knives they should be able to embed them into the seat
either put the 4 digit code in within ten seconds of sitting down or else the trap deploys and you are given a secondary rectum

As it's becoming a bit of a meme to steal my news van I would honestly like to see this.
