Organised religion as a whole seems to be completely fucked. Anyway, Islam in itself isn't an issue in places such as pre-war Syria, or Gaddafi Libya. Usually all the extremist shit kicks off when someone starts a coup, or a civil war, when religion is then used as an ideological front.

I think it has a lot to do with differences of western and Muslim cultures with Muslim cultures being more medieval and reactionary in their extreme forms
