At least these type of roleplay scenarios train up some method of patience in a person, it's a win win, you gain a lot of new lore ideas in return for a new mind set in long term gameplay. Good stuff ey.

"a mindset of patience"

boi i play this game to have fun, not waste hours of my time IRL to get a "mindset of patience"

if i wanted that id play WoW

Roleplay isn't there for your fast pace gameplay, it's to passively interact with individuals and develop a character, so to develop your character, with physical assets, patience is the best mentality to keep. Play WoW if you can't play a game designed to be slow.

Bluesuits are bad enough when they first join assuming they'll become some 'resistance' fighters, don't tell me that you'd play to that standard, rushing roleplay situations and expecting your 'fun' to come with your goals, fun should be achieving your in-character goals my friend, not once you get some fancy arms.

cool my dude

you have the "character development is all" mentality

but you have obviously not been part of this community long enough to realize that just doesn't cut it

on top of that, if i wanted a PURE roleplay experience without "those dirty script whores and their fancy arms", id play a MUD or text roleplay forums, not play an outdated engine on a outdated gamemode patched up by sticky tape and elbow grease

String me up for this but I played Half Life 2 to have fun with my friends from this community. Setting up the UP, becoming a BMD, becoming a crafter, getting CAB etc was all for my personal enjoyment to have something to do, not once did I ever really consider 'I'm doing this for the roleplay' it was always a case of 'Here's some neat abilities I get for doing this.'

As someone who currently partakes in a few text based RPs I've come to realise that roleplay as a concept is incredibly boring. Quite frankly the only two reasons I actually continued RPing for so long was because Clockwork makes the boring become less-boring (refusing to use the word fun here) and I liked the guys here as most of them are class acts.

THIS

this man gets it

i play because i meet interesting people (some of which ive known for years)

and some of the things your allowed to pull off using the engine make me come back for more

roleplay by itself is escapism, and i have books for that; sure i can roleplay a decent character, but JUST roleplaying in of itself is boring

roleplay is a means to an end, not the end of itself

And your argument is? You complain of your 'fun' and lack of enthusiasm in roleplaying, yet you contradict all that, stating it's a form of escapism, that's boring. Alright, so we'll just go escape reality to a boring setting. Is that your concept of escapism, I assumed it was to escape reality, for a more fun, exciting world.

That last part... What... To Summarize, 'Roleplay is a means to an end!!???' Not, the end of itself? What? I mean those sentences mean the same thing... Roleplay is to get to an end, not to the end of itself, I mean what do you call, an end to roleplay? I mean I stated it's the concept of roleplaying as a character and developing thus, so I mean what is this 'end' you draw so cluelessly towards?
[doublepost=1525554524][/doublepost]Escapism - "the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy." Doesn't this definition contradict your idea?
