Okay gang I need some help you know. I'm at a crossroads.

After crashing my motorbike and then a week later being forced off the road and slicing my hands and legs open whilst out road cycling with my brother, I'm having a midlife crisis because I feel as if at this point I won't make it past 40

There's these two cars I'm looking at right now and I really want to get them. Really bad. But I need help making a decision. This is for the future and which one to save for and look at insurance quotes for, not to purchase right away, due to how I have to pay for my motorbike repairs and had to get a new phone after I fell on top of mine, stopping it from turning on now.

The choices are between:

The Achievable Bunch

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV (1997)

Nissan 350z (preferably a 2006 model)

Subaru Impreza WRX

Mazda MX5 NA

Honda S2000 (the most expensive)

What do you lot reckon? What's your thoughts?

where tf u workin to be able to consider these achiveable
i've always been saving at least half my salary every month, living quite frugally

learnt to do it at sainsbury's when i was working and saving for my first motorbike; it's all about budgeting and not spending it on unnecessary stuff, but you can treat yourself every so often

my job at the moment i easily put away around 700-900 quid a month and that's been over the last year or so, with another 7-8 months of saving and i can afford the insurance and cost of one of the top four, which will come up to my second years no claims too, working well for me

believe it or not, a fair few of them the insurance is a lot cheaper then what i would've imagined. for example, even with 1 year's no claims, the evo IV is £310 a month over 10 months, where i was expecting it to be about 500 a month or something, of course i can do stuff to get this down, as well as a little patience for the no-claims, but i very much would like this one

yep, 100% that caught me out with my first car, ford ka, checked the mot history, this that the other, guy convinced us it was all okay, and then just 9 months down the line the floor of the car was so badly rusted it had to be written off because of how much it would've costed to fix, clearly the bloke selling it got a friendly MOT sorted so he could flog it on

ohhhhhh to be able to have rally roads like wales, one can dream, sadly nothing like this near london, but there are tons of good spirited b-roads you can blast about on with no police, hence why i have the motorbike too

i like the impreza and the evo iv, just something about that old style rally look really appeals to me, if it wasn't between these two, the 350z would come next

yeah that's the thing about the 350z it's just a bit funny looking without any mods on it, can look a little like a modern vw beetle without anything

nicest one i've seen is this one, used in time attack racing

i'm definitely more of a visual person myself lmao, couldn't trust myself with any major tasks, but the basics i can sort out which is always good, saves you a ton of cash in the long run because the garages can be so expensive sometimes, even for the littlest stuff

I think you would get funny looks driving around in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV or Subaru Impreza WRX, the rest are considerably more presentable. But in the end, it's your money and a car probably shouldn't be purchased on impulse and on the advice of strangers.

uk car scene you see a lot of subarus and evos, but the evo iv itself is considerably rarer, you don't see many if not any at all, it'd be nice to own something a little different, i've had a practical presentable car for a little too long now so i'd like to spice it up haha

I can't say I know much about car culture in the UK (Or cars in general), I only know the aesthetics and what 'types' of people usually drive them. In Denmark, you'd probably be seen as a jock/gearhead and often single if driving those cars that look more home on a racetrack. It doesn't help that they're more popular with troublemakers/immigrants for reasons I won't delve into.

In the end, I think it's more important to get something you like rather than worrying about what it says about you. This is why I drive a glorified shoebox

on a serious note, the evo is the best choice out of all of these, imo it has the best combination of practicality, reliability, and performance.
It helps that the 4G63 is one of the best platforms of all time.

certainly a good option although i've heard a lot of stories about the older ones being a real fucking pain in the ass maintenance-wise

good all-round, certainly needs lots of work done to it before it looks even remotely nice - that being said; new wheels, spacers and a 1-2 inch lower and it makes all the difference in the world. cost-wise iirc they're pretty expensive off the bat but i dont think insurance is that bad.

N/A? sure, doable

if you go for the turbo model ur gonna be looking at far higher running costs naturally. either way from my observations wrx insurance is pretty high, that's here though - PLUS, ive also heard that wrx maintenance costs are a cunt, esp if you get one above 200mi

if you get a miata (granted, this could be said for all the cars on this list, but ive PERSONALLY seen one of these things dismantled to a shell) you need to be prepared for an utter fucking frankenstein

generally speaking though; horrendously underpowered, small, not that much of a looker - BUT, running costs are VERY affordable.

s2000's are an unspoken gem and i quite frankly adore them; im not too sure on running costs, ik they're expensive though

honestly? gonna spit on the evo/350 lovers in the thread and say you should actually go for the s2000. i myself want an 06 wrx but if i could get my hands on an s2000 i'd do it in a heartbeat.

car god has spoken.
