Firearms feel way too easily available.

At $4,500 with no license requirement, any fresh character is able to just go buy a gun and go pop pop pop.

What I am proposing is a firearms license that is roughly at the same cost as your starting cash by an NPC at the PD or some other official government location.

This could be made available by some sort of judge or a higher-ranking police officer at a cheaper cost but with it would come with maybe some sort of short interview or questionnaire. I have a kink for character interaction. Something along the lines of asking about their understanding of stand-your-ground and castle doctrine, asking why they're buying a gun, etc which also serves to promote some neutral to casual interaction between civilians and the DoJ or the PD.

Weapon prices could either be lowered and offset by the license cost or kept the same to discourage stockpiling. I'm indifferent to this.

This would also help clearly draw a line between a lawfully possessed weapon vs an unlawfully possessed weapon beyond just certain kinds of guns being illegal. It would also force criminals, who perhaps had their license taken or are ineligible (perhaps due to felonies?) to seek out a new source of weapons, either through robbery, coercion, manufacturing, or some other means. Besides the back-end differences between different kinds of weapons, why would a southside gang member bother engaging with the illegal weapons trade if there's no risk to the availability of lawful guns?

Tbh I’m not even pressed about having them expire. Maybe every 60-90 days but even then I’m content with letting them be indefinite and just revoke them after a violent felony or some event involving the criminal use of a firearm. Can only get it back at that point if you get expunged.
This is so annoying in gameplay, believe me. I honestly don't wanna see this at all because it spirals into a snowball of getting arrested just for trying to play the game.

Having a license that expires whenever you are incapacitated just feels...weird to me. I don't even get it beyond some horrifically broad NLR rule.

a gun license I agree with, and I think the only way you should lose it is comiting a crime with a gun. people still need to be encouraged to get guns via illegal means, and id rather people have the risk of being robbed while unarmed their first few hours

My suggestion is to have a semi-permanent license that doesn't go away with crimes and lasts for 1 week, and is easily purchsaeable from any ammunation.

I don't want a license that goes away when you commit crimes, get arrested, get incapacitated or die. Those are mechanics that make the game tedious.

I only think it should be taken away for certain crimes tbh, but is otherwise an indefinite license. Either for violent felonies as a whole, or just any crime that involves a firearm being discharged. There should be some risks to your rights as a civilian when you're out committing some srs crime.

And I hear ya, I'm saying it's unfun to get your license taken away all the time.

Then implement a PD Points system, for those who commit unlawful firearms offences, just like drivers licenses, have a 12 points limit.
