The funny thing is when I joined CAB I was told that was literally the point of the faction - "be hated so people resist the Combine". CoDs told me a long list of shit prior CA's had did as examples, most of which I thought was way too far and unfun so I tried to tone it down when I got lead (no carrying LMG's or sniping people in the plaza lmao).

Invariably over time people did stuff that was, retroactively, dumb but despite what people say now, at the time it really wasn't a huge deal? Like, all groups did dumb edgy shit because that was just the way it was lmao.

"be hated so people resist" is such a cartoonish and outdated view of CAB imo. cops already exist for that purpose. the goal of CAB should be the opposite; make the regime "likeable" to the average citizen despite its horrors, gaslight gatekeep and girlboss the working joe through corruption, patronage and ideology.
