Howell was a lesbian because I was new to Gmod, didn't know the stigma, had never done roleplay of this type before. It literally just 'happened' as I developed her character.

But honestly, a big part of why people ended up making lesbians was because wanting to have any sort of relationship development or whatever was almost impossible with male chars because they were mostly lifeless bricks and the IDEA of romance (without ERP) was liable to get the door slammed on you.

Peak roleplay back then was /me grips tightly his weapon, bringing it to eye height as he depresses the index finger onto the trigger of his Heckler & Koch MP7, releasing a volley of bullets towards its intended target or targets, controlling the recoil of it as more and more lead pieces leave the weapon at supersonic speed, ripping through flesh and soft objects in their path mercilessly, devoid of any feelings, simply destroying everything they come across and have power to break.

i made my character specifically so he can tank these /me's and force people into s2rp because im immune to s2k damage

I've seen longer and more detailed on the inner workings of the weapon, talking about fire and gunpowder and repetition mechanisms and all the jazz. The goal was ultimately to cover the entirety of the chatbox even if the person had maximized it to cover their whole screen.

I would never kill this character not because I can't but because I do not have the time to spend doing a combat scenario that takes 5 days

at the time i got back to playing consistently (2019-2020 etc.) lesbian relationships were extremely intertwined with loyalist socialite culture IC so it made sense for street rebel types to internalize that association

no explanation for anything else though. neb could stand to be more accepting of intimacy in roleplay in general, considering everyone's acted out weird shit to get their dick hard in their time and its pointless to wag fingers at each other in this strange puritan oneupmanship game in an attempt to absolve oneself

but really some of the outrage at marginally diverse or different characters back then when most of the ppl did (and sometimes still do) play ryan gosling/bateman clones or rising sun asian samurai #112 (and no not all of those characters *were* bad obviously) was/is funny as shit. yes some people were bad or embarassing when they tried to divert from the norm but still at least they tried

"be hated so people resist" is such a cartoonish and outdated view of CAB imo. cops already exist for that purpose. the goal of CAB should be the opposite; make the regime "likeable" to the average citizen despite its horrors, gaslight gatekeep and girlboss the working joe through corruption, patronage and ideology.

the faction objectively got better when people matured into this (literally, by growing up)

moslak was a psychopath that became a psychopath after quite literally having her brain operated on by an even bigger psychopath. she was weak at first, got exploited, had her brain manipulated into a dumpster fire and then got given power over thousands of people in a process that was blatantly rigged; so many ministers at the time couldve gotten CA, but she did because sutherland had instructed it be so before she died

cab for me died when somebody decided they should be 'likeable' in any capacity and that was the reason i ended up givin up CAB co-lead all those years ago

i quoted rabid specifically to make it clear the post wasnt directed at you (unless that was you who ended up telling him that, in which case, shrug),

end of the day, tastes change with time as you said. we grew up and gradually decided the puberty grimdark interpretation of 1984 was no longer fun; these days moslak and moslak-lite type of characters are seen as tired old cliches that produce very one-note interactions more often than not - there was a time where im sure this was very badass but that's worn itself out as everything does. the powertripping suited antagonist archetype is still alive and well imo, just needs to be done differently now

"""likeability""" has equally been done badly before dont get me wrong, but im not talking about goody two shoes senators when i (very tentatively) use that word; there should absolutely be an element of manipulation and exploitation to whatever CAB does; and the regime itself being 'likeable' (and is this not horrifying; that you can not simply survive but even thrive adjacently to atrocities if you close your eyes and listen to these people) certainly doesn't mean the individuals that inhabit it have to be ;)
