S2K is the last vestige of an ad-hoc solution that completely goes against the spirit of roleplay

so many rpgs are built off of stats and rolls, it almost envelops the genre. it's so strange how text-roleplay has largely remained untouched by it.

If I ran a server I’d have a little zone designated for s2k and there would also be npcs there and loot maybe

like old RuneScape wilderness

also heavily agree with nexus‘ old suggestion of removing pk appeals entirely outside of event pks or glitches and change to a pk request system where the killer must explain their reasoning for a pk before getting it approved

should still make it so you can only get PK'd if killed by someone who had PK permissions on you beforehand, or your death is resoundingly thematic, narratively appropriate, or canonical in feeling

slipping off map geometry or being killed as a matter of pretense (killed for the crime of wrong place wrong time for example) shouldn't go, because no development comes as a result of that

in RPG terms; PKs if you die as a direct result of your own stupidity, poor actions, and lack of foresight, and less because of circumstances where you were fucked from the getgo. if the metaphorical DM is watching, it's fair game

we're here for OOC enjoyment first and foremost, and we owe it to every player to make them not hate their character dying, even if we can't make them enjoy it
(though personally a really good death scene can be enjoyable even for the person playing the character)

i think considering the next iteration is effectively in a state of full peace (going off the XCOM Chimera Squad inspiration) there probably won't be an authoritarian regime dictating where we can and can't go

tbh I never understood why we didn't RPG'ify things more, we had elements but never a full system for it and it's something I always wished we had.

Also, yes, PK's should be a lot more rare if this is going to be more roleplay orientated. I always hated how easy it was to justify killing someone else and how easy it was to do it.

While it still needs figuring out ideally we'll have a map with a decent city space and outlands space but I am toying with the idea that city space will be S2RP and outlands will be S2K. Outlands will have a lot of resources to gather while the city space will have the facilities needed to process and use them. Gives both a space. Although a cleared and established S2RP system will need to be written up so people can self govern S2RP without staff oversight at all times to GM.

again, if you're rpg-ifying things, make use of the stat-based combat system because it's mostly self explanatory. throw in a tab with a small guide into the in-game menu and fights should generally go smooth and be fair to both sides. additionally, actual s2rp could be utilised in events where your stats don't play as much of a role

As for the RPG-ifying I am for it. I'd like a fleshed out system and if we can reflect it in-game mechanically great as there are other things I imagine stats can be tied into.

To address a few things. As I envision where things will start at this moment in time before things have been fully fleshed out there will indeed not be a from the get go restrictive regime. Although it'll of course have safety in mind if an area is something the average person shouldn't be trapesing around in it may be trespassing. I want to start the server at a political cross roads. At launch maybe being 3-4 weeks out from the first major vote so political characters can advertise their political parties and what they want to represent and get put in place. I really want the political scene to actually have control of laws. We'll start off with a neutral set of them but I want people to be able to shape the laws and control the direction.

We'll probably have permits for weapon and vehicle ownership. Populus Cities or 'Bastions' as I call t hem right now in my head won't be prisons like urban centers but the Outlands are still highly dangerous. So perhaps you will need to get permits to go out legally. Transhumans at the start also will need to be registered with the Populus and wear identifying markings Detroit Become Human style if they want to be in the Populus Cities. Populus Transhumans will start out this way but Outlands Transhumans for example may have a different starting point outside the city and need to get registered before entry if they wish too.

But to go back to the political loops all these would be laws at the time of launch and then people can push to either lessen or restrict things further. Maybe it doesn't start out harsh but if incidents occur that pushes the political council to put further laws into place, more gun control, curfew, travel restrictions ect ect as some ideas then it could lean back towards some familiar ways, or reverse. Maybe the Transhumans get political steam rolling and they get their freedoms of not having to be branded as what they are or the legalization of new transhumanization which will be illegal at launch. Or maybe Transhumans get even further oppressed and they fight back through violence.

Gunsmoke 3 and Respite used stats to determine modifiers to rolls instead of giving you mostly OOC benefits from running around the map

you'd get some points to spend on character creation (a bit like how Clockwork used you let you pump points into your initial stats) and then from there most of your stat progression came from participation in events, storylines, and character action

like /attack would make you roll, automatically applying your attack stat modifier to the roll

we ought to have more player owned vehicles, that van I had as Jess was so much fun to build and drive around in. we have to have maps that allow some driving. I want carcrashRP

We also need a passive loot system that doesn't rely on admins.

i think with this being set in what is basically post-post-apocalypse, where society is mostly reformed, i doubt looting will be the main source of item acquisition going forward

commerce will probably be the big thing i think?
