Adding friends glitch?

So i try to add zlay [karl johnson] as a friend since he owns the store now and when i try to this happens.

it says send message but when i do he doesnt get it at all and when he messages me i dont get it at all

on the steam browser AND steam client, it wont add us at all. Is there anyway to fix this?
