Is this possible?

There is no question whether or not sleep deprivation alters your consciousness, but I've been wondering lately; could you actually get psychologically addicted to being in a state of everlasting sleep deprivation? To the point where you no longer know/like yourself as a fully rested, alert, responsible and thinking person?

Maybe if a certain area in your brain that differs positive and negative emotions was hit hard enough, you could stop thinking of sleep deprivation as a negative thing you don't want. Otherwise, you'd most likely always strive NOT to be sleep deprived, because as humans we want to be happy and filled with positive emotions. Essentially you'd have to be a psychopath to love being sleep deprived.

Something you trying to tell us?

i don't think it's possible to develop a dependance to sleep deprivation - dependances are formed towards things that generally have a positive impact on you (at least psychologically, physically is not so certain). sleep deprivation is actively bad for you and feels bad, too.

You'd likely only be able to get addicted to it if your nervous system was fucked in some weird way that made sleep deprivation release positive hormones instead of negative ones.

You could also be addicted to doing stuff you enjoy doing, but you can only do them when you're sleep deprived or staying up late.

I don't get how you can be addicted to something that your body physically CANNOT like though. Biologically, you achieve satisfaction and happiness by your hormones of 'happiness' - in other words endorphines - released into your system. So essentially, you'd need your endorphines to be released into your body every time it runs out of resources to supply the body with enough energy and while shouting "FAT CUNT CAN YOU JUST SLEEP PLEASE YOU'RE KILLING ME".

It's possible though. I had a friend in high school (RIP) who was addicted to speed - it made him feel like absolute shit when he took it, felt worse than the withdrawals, but he still kept being drawn to it. Our brains work in mysterious ways.

Being addicted to drugs is something different, because they are external source though. They are modified to lower our brain's defenses and forcefully release the hormones of pleasure. While sure, the body can react allergically or like an absolute spastic, very technically the person's brain believes it's doing something good because it was forced to be happy. But I'm not a doctor or an expert, so don't take my word for it.

Also, sorry about your friend.

I can't sleep at night and then I don't want to sleep during the day and it's like a endless cycle.

Maybe you're an insomniac? I've been experiencing insomnia for quite sometime and I can relate to what you're saying, if it gets really off hand, go to your pharmacy and ask for Melatonin or something that can get you sleepy. Stop staying up all the time, you might need all the energy you have one day and you won't have enough.

if you stop sleeping your body will fail, and you will die

but usually your brain will just put you to sleep if you like it or not

If you do not have a regular sleep schedule then most likely your biological clock is all fucked up. Also, the more you look at screens (computer, tv, phone, etc) the more difficult it will to sleep because your brain will take the light as daylight. Eating and excising habits are very important for good a good sleep cycle and quality of sleep.

real talk though

fight club explains sleeplessness really well
to a certain extent, yes
6 months without sleeping is impossible, you'd die after around 2 weeks

I would highly doubt it as Addiction is caused by chemicals releasing in your brain - any form of forced addiction wouldn't be chemical addiction like normal but more the need to repeat these actions in order because of usually some form of mental instability or disorder.
