What is heavy metal's actual appeal? I would listen to it if I didn't hear it past the hoarse bellowing. I know it has definite meaning and melodies but, to metalheads, what is its appeal?

the only metal i listen to is sludge, doom and stoner, and the reason i listen to that is because the sound is so thick and it's just amazing
and also i like the chilling feel you can get from doom metal

I like Elvenking, very good metal band imo.

Not into screamo or anything like that, I listen for the instrumentals and guitar riffs. I prefer power metal/speed metal over anything else, DragonForce is probably my favourite out of any of the bands.

Have you listened to any Sonata Arctica? Their album "Ecliptica" is a must-listen in the powermetal genre
