I'm so proud of you. Seriously @DemonElite hit it on the head. I wish I got a dog out of it. That would of been so tight.

Overall if I didn't have a kid to feed and didn't want to settle down to give him a slightly more stable life (as stable as I get anywho) I would likely went back after getting my bachelors.

It had a lot of suck to it but at the end of the day I kinda miss it.

I wasn't goin' back, fuck that. I was tight as fuck with my unit but we all had that "aw hell naw" moment when our contracts were up. I adopted my dog and got the fuccck out. I'll stay in DSS. They don't give me dogs but they pay me enough that I can get more dogs.

Also Americucks looking to join the military, don't be that boot that goes out, marries the first stripper they see and blows all their starter dollary doos on a mustang. DON'T DO IT. Save that shit, save your penis too. I've seen wayyyyyy too many Marines and other service members do that shit, especially Marines.

He's already a grown adult and went through the service already as a NCO iirc. You can re-enlist if you're going to college and aim for officer's school though.

Really depends on rank/pay grade and MOS (occupation). Oh, and how long you serve. There's also a bunch of benefits in there like tuition assistance, housing/clothing allowance, healthcare, etc. If you re-enlist and previously worked a special position that required a difficult skill set, you can also end up with a fat re-enlistment bonus...and there's regular enlistment bonuses as well. Basically there's no set in stone pay beyond the base pay of a given rank.

realize that but in the marines as long as you get a 77 on the asvab you can qualify for officer programs such as the NROTC once you hit Sergeant and it does the same thing, regardless of age
im asking if they do a similar thing

ROTC programs are strictly college student only, or those in military schools (Not including JROTC), as they come with a mandatory enlistment if you complete the program. We have Officer Candidate School for those who are either already graduated college with a degree or are already NCOs but qualify for the program.

This is how it works essentially across all branches.

NROTC, as the example you used, is just a college program that prepares you for officer's school at Quantico (in the case of NROTC) once you hit your junior-senior year in college.

For newly commissioned officers, there is an age limit, you have to be less than 30 years old and older than 18, and they generally prefer applicants that are less than 28 years old. And on the ASVAB you definitely need higher than a 77, you need at least a 115 minimum. You also need a minimum of a combined SAT score of 1,000 for verbal and math skills.

Instead of NROTC, NCOs to go to OCS at Quantico. You NEED to have a bachelor's degree or be a full time student while enlisted (I do NOT recommend going to college full time while going to OCS). There's an exception for those with associates degrees if they're solid marines and requires a nomination by their CO.

I elaborated more in an edit that corrects some of what you thought were the requirements to become an officer.

He's already out, he'd have to go through a bunch of shit if he re-enlisted and aimed for a commission. He might also be fairly out of the age range (I forgot the age difference between us Kirsh lmao) and this nibba has kids or a kid to take care of I suspect he ain't tryna go back to that.

Having been an E-7 (Was an E-6 and got a meritorious promotion to E-7) and offered a meritorious commission if I re-enlisted, fuuuuuck that. Nevvvvvvvvvvvver going back. It is so not worth it. Except the dog part. That was literally the ONLY enjoyable thing about serving is that I got a dog that I got to adopt once my timer was up.

Was a nice pathway to federal law enforcement though.

in the marines as a recruit once you go to boot camp you earn like 1.6 grand a month
so when i come out of boot camp I’m gonna have like 5~ grand since I’m spending three months there
then once you graduate you get a pay raise by a few hundred more

Happens. All. The Time. It's always a fucking Mustang or an F150. Hoard as much of it as you can.

considering how little i get paid in comparison to normal careers I’m saving that shit like a motherfucker, which should be rather easy considering they’re basically paying for all my life needs

Exactly. No reason to go all spendy spendy. Sit on it until you're out. When you're out they give your ass an allowance for a bit too while you "readjust" to civilian life, too. So that's some extra free cash.

tbh I’m saving that shit until i can buy myself some land down south somewhere so i can have somewhere to retire to and raise a family, instead of being that one dude who blows his paycheck every month and becomes another homeless veteran statistic
