but in summary, when you buy a license to the source engine, you not only get all the source code but a bunch of debugging tools that allow you to view engine code in realtime for the sake of debugging, and if they left that in their release, any chucklefuck who buys the game can just poke apart the source code

disclosing those tools is so massively against the licensing terms that they can and will get their asses sued off if it's true

it's not so much a case of "how much money it would cost", but they'd be sued for a significant amount considering they essentially distributed engine code that costs thousands of dollars to license

so basically, you're talking a BARE MINIMUM of thousands of dollars in a lawsuit, and probably a lot more for that because they redistributed valve content (in the form of recompiled hl2 maps), as well as breach of contract
