I would say in defense of reviewers, that if they upload regular gameplay recordings of a server then it can be interesting to see that gameplay captured from a specific point in the life of a server. If I was making a montage of an old server and all I could find were dramatic moments from big battles then you'd think that the server was a bit over the top, but then you come across a reviewer who showed you unedited gameplay that isn't staged - you see a genuine glimpse of what it was really like. It makes sense to me that regular players aren't motivated to upload regular gameplay themselves, so the reviewers are pretty much your only source to go back in time and see an example of what it looked like day to day.

It's not perfect if the reviewer is from a different server culture so they're not really engaging with the rest of the players in a natural fashion, like someone who comes in and calls everything shit and wants to shoot the place up, but what they capture of other players is still a rare act of someone willing to take a camera into an often mundane situation and share what they record.
