I have a soldier main friend who calls any pyro who uses airblast as "Cheap"

I like backburner because it saved me from my unhealthy habit of spamming airblast. Now I save it for extinguishing or just time it better instead of M2 M2 M2 M2 M2

Airblast is about timing though

Phlog is the worst offender for promoting mindless walking forward holding M1 and rewards it by letting them become invincible + with crits. At least the backburner requires you to get behind people to benefit (Feeding into Pyro's role as an ambush class)

I'm sorry I just hate the phlog.

Phlog was actually nerfed rather than buffed in the update. You no longer get you hp back to full when you do your MMPH taunt, AND you no longer have the 90~% resistances to everything while you have the crits out.

Someone can wait next to you and blast your arse off the moment your uber is off

Really though, I rarely see spies actually go for heavies with it - or they try to headshot them which is a viable tactic

it swallows too much ammo from being spun up in comparison to how niche the use of the flames are, and it becomes even more apparent compared to the stock mini gun (doesn't eat up a shit ton of ammo) and the tomislav (faster and silent wind up for little loss, making it much more generally applicable in comparison to the heater)
