It never got specified. There were speculations and ideas back on LP to make it semi-gold whitelist, for example allowing normal players a standard zombies and leave other types of characters to Goldmembers, or need Goldmember to apply but can play it without it later on.

And yes, you still have to apply if even with a Premium membership, the Zombies got quite powerful and immersive with the help of our great @Zombine and just because you paid a few bucks to support the community, does not make you trustworthy.

(But the application process shouldn't be really hard and long, to be fair.)

Donator only. You can try playing on a zombie character without active Premium, it won't allow you to load the character.
