Tickets ran out in 2 hours
re-booked for a bigger auditorium at the university
rest of seats went out in 30 minutes

Was really good (full segment already on youtube)

also bought his book there

either way, he's pretty controversial (for no good reason tbh, he's not a Milo or whatever), wondering what you guys thought of him

I have a lot of respect for Dr.Peterson, I got "12 rules for life" at my appartment and plan on buying "maps of meaning" and "The gulag archipelago" whenever I'll have the time. I also watched a dozen of his youtube videos, I went at the half of his biblical lectures before I had to go to college, making it practically impossible for me to spend 3 entire hours doing something else than learning. But after this is settled I'll watch it entirely.
I found a lot of truth in what he said, it helped me at a time where I didn't really have a proper philosophy and contributed hugely to the person that I am today and the person I plan to be in the futur.
He has an ability to make philosophical concepts much more interesting than what you think they are primarily. And a professor at university that uploads videos on youtube is something that I personnaly find cool.

ANYWAY, I hope you had fun!

i wish he weren't so political, makes me not want to talk about how decent his actual psychoanalytics is and how good his talks on existentialims and russian literature actually are

instead ive got to justify myself everytime i mention him

i appreciate the self help stuff the guy does but i don't like the cult that's been built up around him, especially when it comes to people that have a very narrow and limited exposure to political or philosophical discussion

i know one or two people that basically treat everything he says as gold, regardless if it's just his "clean your room self help" stuff or the more political discourse he presents.

that being said, i appreciate the way he handles debate and the value he puts on calm discussion. Especially liked the way he handled getting blatantly insulted by a swedish government minister recently

I mean, did you really need to read 12 rules, I mean, couldn't you just go to an AA meeting and get the same advice?

I don't see how anyone who knows who Jordan Peterson is would require justifications of any kind.

he is associated with the anti-trans movement, and i myself dont want to offend the trans community

of course, peterson is not anti-trans, but his followers and general movement is often mischaracterised as such
that's why any mention of him needs to be defended and justified with a bunch of caveats

I look up to Dr. Peterson, seeing as I am an aspiring psychologist myself. I have found many of his lectures on religion, maps of meaning, personality psychology and "channeling your inner psychopath" to be extremely powerful. I've found myself getting teary-eyed hearing him speak on depression when he himself broke down explaining to concerned parents who lost their child to suicide that you can't fix everyone. On politics, I think Peterson is a little bit uni-dimensional, and sometimes he gets political theories and concepts wrong. But I don't care about that. I care about the fact that he's a man who has devoted his whole life to trying to help people out of bad situations. He's not a monster or darling of the alt-right like people try to say, he's just a genuine guy.

Here's the video about depression I was talking about:

And on a less emo note, this video cracks me up, and I hope it does the same for you:

to give some context to everyone, the swedish minister of foreign affairs commented that Peterson "should crawl back to under the rock he came from" during a panel talk. She later added that the comment was "ironic" and that she thinks he's "completely uninteresting".

I wonder what the reaction would be if Drumpf's sec. of state said that about someone

The guys not a good psychologist or a good anything really. The guys a brainlet who thinks gommermism is evil vuvuzulu 100 gorrillion dead, thinks the nazis were just evil and gives reasoning for it that gives holocaust deniers a good basis for their arguments which is why he's attracted a huge Nazi following. Not to mention the fact that he refuses to eat anything other then meat for some bullshit reason that makes no sense and the fact that he thinks women's natural place is in the kitchen or that gay people can't have functioning families.

He isn't lmao.
He most certainly is

He's out in the world making money just by talking about his ideas
You're sat on a roleplay forum complaining about him and getting your shit ideas mocked by shitposting roleplayers

Also "he's not a good psychcologist' - is a pretty hilariously dumb statement
