How was LemonPunch funded?

i never really played lp much, so i barely remember exactly what it was like.
i knew if you had gold you got to claimtokens, but from reading this thread, you could literally pay for special scripts and items?
  • Goodie bags which contained smaller items and tokens
  • Special requests for items (Gurrazor controlled the prices)
if so, did no one ever bring up how shit that was?
apologies if this is a common question, i don't even really know the story of lp

LP was moderated way more than neb is

People would get banned for bantering n shit, even if it's just a joke. Granted people might not like moderation here but it pales in comparison. Just look at monolith now; sanitised. At least neb is, in my opinion, real - not just an image

As Blackquill said you risked getting banned if you spoke out about it or kicked up any sort of shit. Not to mention Gurrazor kept those two under wraps and the only people who really did it were treated as community jokes which worked in his favour too. Nobody got angry because they got PK'd within a week anyway and Gurrazor would get more money to spend as a result.

Not to mention that moderation on LP was obscene. You couldn't say 90% of what you can here without getting a hefty ban - there weren't often exceptions made to that either.

LP 'worked' because Gurrazor didn't give a fuck and gave the players whatever they wanted while expecting the SD's to make it run smoothly and crush any problems it made which led to so many headaches. He'd outright block positive changes we wanted to make with no context because he didn't think it'd work (the guy literally was so out of touch he made a child character without knowing it broke his own rules).

@Zombine politely asked if he could have his work in an email to gurra and I believe gurra had the gall to say no.

:(

and about a week after this he started compiling my plugins into packs and selling them to skids.

(i also like how he insists these emails are confidential)

i remember returning after a hiatus only a day before it happened

@Blackquill @alex was lp's fall a long time coming or was it quiet sudden?
The straw that broke the camels back was sudden (the whole 'oh no alex doesn't have 50 shares' thing)

But the problems with gurra were on-going and well known to community management. When I was made community manager, I quickly noticed that various decisions gurra made be it business related or behavior wise just painted the wrong image or were unethical.

documentary on lp would be pretty cool, especially since we have a lot of people who were on the inside and saw how it actually was
Tbh as much as reminiscing on it brings me nostalgia - I was a teenager during LP, I'm an adult now

I'd rather just move forward, because won't lie - I was pretty reserved back on LP and kinda overwhelmed when something I was hoping I could continue to work on crumbled in less than a week.

Psisyn is a cool streamer, he has a few videos of him on monolith

I think gurrazor payed him to play on there and he definitely gave the guy free upgrades, stat boosts, money, etc

reminds of the time dunjam and the other guy were in a psisyn gmod dayz video lmao

People like to paint Nebulous as "more like a business than a community" but that really isn't true - no big community is going to thrive without long-term investment and thoughts on how to keep it stable and ongoing. Thats exactly why smaller communities, unless they're passion projects with a dedicated playerbase, all invariably shut down in a matter of months.

LP? LP was the type of community where everything would seem super cool and open but you quickly realise that to get anywhere it was in your best interests to donate or at the very least shut up and not raise a fuss. It wasn't about longevity because Gurrazor's tactic was "give them whatever to shut them up and keep donating" no matter the strain it put on the staff team or players themselves - he genuinely didn't care. You can see this pattern repeating pretty handily with Monolith actually.

I was never a part of lemonpunch but a lot of people make it this amazing place where the best and most memorable shit happened while also saying it was a shitshow and a complete disaster, how long was lp around for?

LP was basically a playground where you could do whatever but if you peeled back the hood it was literally clinging on through tape and paperclips.

People remember it primarily because the attitudes of the playerbase were vastly different even when I joined back in early-mid 2015 and nobody would kick up shit if you scalped a loyalist or a cop shot you in the balls. It was a different time with different standards as a whole.
