i too prefer it not being made with american actorsI was just watching a podcast made by the show creator and he said he chose people who weren't American as the American accent would pull an American audiance out of the feature.
As someone who's from the UK and the show was done by British actors, I have to say that I think he's wrong, I think that the accent being similair to yours makes it a lot closer to home and makes it a little more personal, rather then pulling me away or detaching me from the show it made me relate with the actors more and made some connection between me and them, which really improved the viewing.
From non-English and British people watching the show, do you agree with what the director said? And how did their dialect correlate with you?
It's a bit like Death Of Stalin or some other movie I can't think of but heard of. Making good actors put on bad accents would pull away from the whole ordeal so just don'ti too prefer it not being made with american actors
a lot of the people who were included in the show are very good actors but are rarely seen in the big pictures because they're from smaller countries movie creation wise, which means we don't connect them to anything
im personally very glad that they're getting recognition in a show like this, their different accents does a lot to point out how many people from all over the soviet union actually took part
I would've been comfortable if they went down the path of Deutschland 83 in which everyone spoke legitimate Russian with subtitles but I know that it wouldn't have made it accessible enough as having to bounce between subtitles and the picture itself can get disorienting as fuck at times.i too prefer it not being made with american actors
