not sure how it is in australia but i think in a lot of first world countries, you can't actually be kicked out/kicked off the rental for owning a pet, the worse they can do is spite you and try to think of another reason to send you away, but they have to wait until the end of your lease

because animals like dogs suck because they show too much affection and too little self respect, but then fish sucks because they don't even care if you live or die. They have no relation with you. So it's really whichever you prefer.

Parrots are a great mix, low maintenance cost, high affection, lots of personality!

They're far easier to 'train' and, in most cases, far less work to maintain and keep healthy and happy. Plus there's some absolutely gorgeous snakes and fish alike!

My friend had a Green Tree Python (legally) and she was absolutely gorgeous. Did she do much? Nope. She was also venomous so he had to be very careful with her, though. He also had a Boa, who was chill as hell and enjoyed being handled.

I love snakes though so I am probably stupidly biased.

puppers are great

snakes are low maintenance but the equipment you need can get expensive in the long run

tarantulas basically require near-nothing to survive, just feed them a couple of baby mice every like 2-3 weeks and you'll be fine as long as you remember to fill up a little cup of water for them

Honestly I have to rep Giant African Land Snails too. They need a basic change once a week or so and some fresh fruit and veggies every day!

oh absolutely there are very pretty species out there, but I don't think I'd want a pet that, in my opinion, I would only be using as decoration. Personally, I would feel awkward not knowing whether the critter is happy or anything, since they can't really indicate it, or the way they do isn't typical of other animals.

I remember one of my friends had a snake pet, it was a tiny and non venomous they are ADORABLE, and their mouth when they open to give you kisses (or try to eat you with their tiny mouth) metls my heart

I can totally respect that!

I've grown up around a lot of different animals and there's pros and cons to both 'sorts' of pet. It is totally easy to see why you'd be wary of something that you really can't 'relate' to, I guess? Like, dogs and cats have legitimately evolved and been bred to fit in with us. Snakes and such haven't.

Admittedly its also something of a bonus because they're far less emotionally complex. It breaks my heart to see a stressed/upset dog but with snakes and other such animals it is typically on a far more basic level (not that any animal deserves to be unhappy nor do I enjoy seeing it, its just easier to meet the needs of a tarantula or a snake).

as long as you get a constrictor snake then you can handle them pretty frequently and let them roam (with oversight and in a safe enviroment). They're pretty chill, and are typically pretty hard to provoke so you can have it out if you're just on the couch or whatever

Had a Boa constrictor that we would take out of the tank every now and then for feedings so it could actually hunt. Had to sell it because it got too long though.
