basically yeah, I have a plan, script, set-up map and code all ready to go but:@Roosebud has suggested he'd like to bring it back and has everything ready to go but he doesn't have the time or energy, iirc.
weekend-long things r cool
I've always had a place in my heart for the game mode, but I do think its time has passed - a lot of the attention given to it has subsided, and I expect it to just be considered a passing fad.basically yeah, I have a plan, script, set-up map and code all ready to go but:
A) I have almost zero time to run things properly
B) I have almost zero people actually willing to put in the time and effort to run it on a dedicated basis
C) there's very little (from what I've gathered) enthusiasm to populate it beyond +/- 20 players
D) The people that do want are divided between the "just let me shoot things for a couple hours with barely any proper story" and "I hate s2k give me deep rp", which conflicts
Yeah but they require even more dedication and time if it's episodic and story-driven. Besides, I have some ideas for episodic content but on the long run it doesn't really interest me. My preference would always be the hybrid s2k/(light) rp with story events main thingy.
And the weekend shooty-shooty event was cool, but it was mainly a ways to finally use all the shit we had coded for stasiland. I don't particulary like the mindless deathmatching and the kind of shit it brings up in people (already had people trying to be toxic and griefing on day 2).
i am necropostingWake up @Northgate
Another WW3RP thread.
But fr, I don't think its a big secret of mine and Norths dream of Stasiland Relaunch.
I'm glad we managed to figure out why the gamemode died though, and know how it could've been fixed.
I have some fond memories, even with all the bad. I think it was something special, and I wish I could've done more. But it was too late.
huh a necropost
I think WW3RP Stasiland had some interesting potential as occupied land, maybe seeing how local citizens interact with any NATO spies working against the Stasi, discovering the inner workings of the regime and the morals of the people involved in enforcing or governing it, or exploring the fundamentals of a day to day life under the regime.
I heard that the Stasi on day one were basically just the DMV of the pact and that sounds really demoralising, and NATO didn't really show for a long while afaik. The most I've heard about the civilian end of things was the firefighters and that doesn't sound like a server carrying concept. As for the Red Army, uncertain as to why they were there when it was a primarily civilian oriented server to my knowledge.
If WW3RP launched again, I'd certainly look into playing it. Though moreso a Stasiland concept than the traditional WW3RP deal. And I've probably made a mistake here with my limited knowledge so people will laugh at me.
oh and a special shoutout to all the critical business owners that applied for key positions / locations and then never bothered to show up or disappeared without a word during the first couple of days, resulting in most systems immediately failing / not being taken over / half the city instantly being a ghost town.aint gonna go into detail because we had tons of analysis threads back when it closed. but tl;dr was basically people didn't fully grasp what we envisioned for the server and started doing their own thing or yelling their conclusions and quitting before things got underway.
It's a shame it happened but at the same time maybe the concept was misplaced on the playerbase expecting either constant action or full-on passive, as it was meant to be neither
