Ye I figured some would (werebeasts absolutely) also figuring out how to set up guard towers so my kobolds can shoot their crossbows over the moat on idle intruders.
I found out the annoying way that goblins could shoot over 1-level high walls and also swim across my moat. I didn't let the game go on far enough to see if they could then climb the wall bordering the moat before I was like "guess I redo the fort"

Goblins wanting to "reclaim" my artifact were marching towards the moat before I witnessed a confusing cascade of infighting and then this donkey teleporting behind them and crunching the last ones insides.

Also, the Chameleon Werebeast seems to be the most passive one so far despite transforming in front of my kobolds and showing no sign of aggressive hostility, or maybe I'm just lucky.

I mean while I've yet to experience werebeasts or werepeople, Sseth did say that he had a human bard that was a werezebra that just ate his chickens, so maybe they're not always intent on killing everyone that isn't hostile to them?

I presumed the bard only morbed near chickens by chance and rarely was in contact to maul dwarves but yeah seems like the chameleons are the most chill compared to every other variant in this world.

why arent dwarves migrating to my fortress

made a nice little fortress with an entrance surrounded by a moat and drawrbridge, 1 block tall wall since i dont have the materials for more

plenty of diverse food and ale, capacity almost double of what i have (15 dwarfs with 32 avaliable rooms+exp leader quarters)

most seem happy or neutral excluding the 5 children (despite disabling chores and making them toys)

temple+tavern+library (although its empty cause i dont have books/materials)

plenty of smoothed and engraved walls

havent had any migrants bar the first wave, why dont they like my place?

my fortress is a bit far from my starting civilization ill admit (idk if that affects anything), and we're also at peace with everyone including goblins so its weird

give it time, I had no migrants for a year and a half on my last fortress and then my fucking population went from 20 to a 100 (not hyperbole, those were the actual numbers) by the end of the second year and literally nothing changed AND I didn't have rooms prepared for them at the time.

Werebeasts are weird. They'll usually try and violently murder the absolute fuck out of anything around them when they transform (except other Werebeasts of the same sort) but sometimes they kinda bug out a little and just. Aren't?

It could depend on where your embarking dwarves come from I.E the original embarkers I had for my moat fort were from a small population of dwarven civilization so migrant waves came in small numbers if we attracted any at all, and when I reclaimed it with the kobolds the numbers quickly skyrocketed.

Speaking of original embarkers my kobold made a statue recreating the event of that ambusher kobold beating the shit out of that dwarf and there's a ghost dwarf idly haunting under the moat that never bothers our kobolds so we left him non-memoralised to add the effect :)

closer proximity to your civilization means for more migrants i think, otherwise just put it down to bad luck and let them come on their own!! me personally i got migrants at an insane rate and had to deal with like 100+ pop after like a couple of years, and suddenly im there with 30 bedrooms for a hundred guys shitting my pants big time

Speaking of pop and bedrooms, how'd y'all lay yours out? With my current fort I decided to get creative so I looked around on the wiki and found this design I kinda like so I'm currently in the works of making it for an entire floor, with just the centre being a 3x3 staircase. If I had any idea of how I'd use other floors that have periodic stairs like this design I'd probably 1-1 it but I just can't figure out a way lol

i'd have liked to do this sort of design all the way up and down like a sort of dwarvern hive, but i fucked up and started it on a floor where i had a lot of industry and stuff

ill very likely start again in a taiga or somewhere snowy because this save is getting kinda boring now, im very much way too powerful for anything to be a threat, spare for digging down 100 layers and yoloing my fort so i might just retire it and wish the boys good luck, but id like to go again and build something prettier

also in regards to that design, i dont think dwarves like 1x1 staircases very much for pathing so be careful!!

Is there a way to use minecarts like trains btw? I'd honestly much prefer long ass hallways but ik the walk takes them fucking forever, so I'd much rather have like a train station and shit if that's a thing

in the minecart menu, tell dwarves to ride the minecart instead of kicking or guiding it
they'll get in and ride it

have the track loop and have stops for each place you'd want a dwarf to get out

Also as I am quickly learning by trying to do that design on an ENTIRE FLOOR, this game very much could use what Prison Architect has, which is a copy/paste function for buildings/areas.
