i'd have liked to do this sort of design all the way up and down like a sort of dwarvern hive, but i fucked up and started it on a floor where i had a lot of industry and stuff

ill very likely start again in a taiga or somewhere snowy because this save is getting kinda boring now, im very much way too powerful for anything to be a threat, spare for digging down 100 layers and yoloing my fort so i might just retire it and wish the boys good luck, but id like to go again and build something prettier

also in regards to that design, i dont think dwarves like 1x1 staircases very much for pathing so be careful!!
i do something similar to sots with 2x2s although its one 2wide path going up with 1 tile wide branches left and right that go to their rooms i also got cabinets in their rooms cause i heard it helps more

im not in deep enough yet to min/max every little thing i just dig when i need to without planning anything

the true dwarvern way.
im on with my second fort now, so i will drop updates when things are coming along :)

also pretty sure cabinets are good, my dwarves used to leave socks and shit all over their rooms

Butcher or mangle everything or it will reanimate. Doesn't matter what it is - hair and skin will try to kill you if you butcher something and don't tan it quick enough lmao

no

im going to keep them.

me, opening a petting zoo in my fort which exclusively hosts goblin hands that try to kill you through the glass

its so funny seeing how far some people have progressed in this thread and how organized some of their fortresses are

meanwhile i just lost four dwarves during winter because i did the smart idea of having the local river as the only water source and it turns out water tends to freeze to ice when it gets cold

my base is as organized as those spaghetti bridges they made you do in 7th grade physics class.

I haven't even encountered any external (non-season-related) threats yet. I am a danger to myself.

generally i just use water sources for medical purposes and fishing, make sure you've got a good alcohol brewing system implemented early broski 🆒

Think I overestimated the setup, the pressure from the magma sea shoved the floodgate out of the way screwing up the whole magma station entirely, thankfully walled off the section to keep the circus tunnel safe.

use diagonals to reset liquid pressure, it's a lifesaver

yeah like sots said dont rely on water (but like, still have it around for emergencies) and brew stuff instead

it makes dwarfs happier, its pretty easy to do and it can last you through the winter

make barrels at a carpenter and make a brewery workshop (under farming i think), collect plants around your fort during spring-autumn constantly (from what ive experienced you tend to get a lot of fruits/plants very easily) and brew drinks from fruit and plants at the brewery

i think you could make it better if you grew the crops yourself although ive yet to figure out exactly how to do it effectively so i just rely on gathering shit when it pops up, havent had more than 25 dwarfs though so idk how well this scales up
