This reminds me of an exercise I did once.

Basically we were told that the French had invaded the UK and we had to make our way to an extraction point which was a helipad, we take fire, move on because it's compromised and later get ambushed.

For those who don't know, when you take fire with an un-chambered round (which is standard for patrolling) you load a round into the chamber, fire 2-3 rounds in the direction you think the enemy is, then get on the floor or into cover.

I stuck around and watched the next group go through. I remember clearly watching this one dude wasn't strong enough to pull the cocking mechanism of his gun back so just stood in the field getting shot at look around and trying to pull his cocking handle back but couldn't, he slowly got on the floor and kept pulling at it while prone.
