The year is 2050, the Combine have left earth, a distant, if not a unpleasant memory, one the next generation shouldn't forget.
A museum dedicated to the war effort has been set up somewhere in the states, in one exhibit labeled 'Faith during conflict' , is a small pocket Bible, one of many religious items, out of curiosity. You pause and take a look. On one blank page, is a photo of a scarred man, not much older than twenty or so, probably found with the book, on the other is a prayer written in pen harshly.
"Oh Father, which art in Heaven, I pray to you now to give me the strength to defeat my enemies, and to return home safely, in sickness, health and in-between, please give me the ability to follow your plan, and your will, so that darkness may not consume us, but instead be cast out by the flame of your mercy. Amen."
The small plaque on the glass casing mentions that the owner has never been identified, before it moves on to uninteresting babble.
