Add the gloves as a removable accessory. Set it so whenever you decide to remove the gloves, your torso selection is replaced with the matching torso without the gloves.

This can be used as a way to introduce in-field fingerprinting, which can then be analyzed at the station to see if it matches any fingerprints already taken from someone that has been processed for charges. It's another form of evidence that can be collected alongside casings and blood samples, using the fingerprinting kit already developed for the mugshot room.

Fingerprints would be left behind whenever someone interacted with something (a car, robbing and looting a house, cracking open a safe, etc.) while not wearing gloves.

If gloves were worn, then there'd still be some print left behind that'd tell you what kind of glove might've been used when analyzed at the station (leather, wool, nitrile, etc.) so there's still some chance at matching crimes to individuals.

I really like this part. If it weren't for this it'd be the same as this not existing at all since everybody would be wearing gloves all the time.

I like the suggestion for it's ingenuity but I wouldn't want to see that sense of detailed realism for the server particularly because it gives a major advantage to one role.

I recommend it with a random print quality caviat.

Low/Ruined Quality - Unusable, not enough prints to find someone (optional perhaps a glove quality)

Average quality - Can be compared to prints taken at the mugshot room or prior to tell if it's a match but wont provide ID

Good/Superior quality - gives citizen ID (should be low chance imo)

This reduces risk for one-off crimes but the more you do the more likely an officer catches a superior/good quality print.

I disagree. I think that the prints shouldn't vary in quality. If you get arrested and have your prints taken to be on record with the department, and then fingerprints off of a scene are taken, then I think it'd be reasonable for them to match up without issue. Otherwise, there'd be a random chance for a rather important aspect of an investigation to completely kill it off, which is entirely out of the players control. That wouldn't be very fun for most people. It's also important to keep in mind that it'd be no different than bullet casings or blood samples. Just because your fingerprints can be found somewhere, it doesn't necessarily mean that you committed the crime.

There's already a system that immediately alerts the police to these crimes, without any actual delay, so there's already a fairly decent risk of doing it. Ideally, players shouldn't be grinding out these activities, so the risk of an investigation tracing back to you should always exist, and the chance of being caught in the act is the risk of doing it more frequently.

I don't think the mechanics of the server should make cops want people to commit more crime so they have a better chance at catching someone, but to instead be able to have quality investigative roleplay surrounding individual scenarios. It breeds better roleplay between department personnel, and subtly encourages criminals to take more care and effort into their individual crimes rather than spam them out in hopes that they'll get lucky. It's a weird offset where one side wants people to grind, because that gives them better chances while the other side is encouraged not to grind as it makes their chances of getting caught higher - ideally you want them to coincide so the mindset of either end of the spectrum isn't vastly different from one another, because then you end up with some annoying OOC arguments on how investigations are handled and it just becomes a mess

It would be cool if wearing gloves hampered fingerprinting and not wearing gloves left fingerprints. Tbh I assumed this is how it already worked so if it doesn't it'd be cool to change that

It wouldn't leave behind a fingerprint. Just a certain type of smudge mark that'd correspond to one of the different glove textures in the game so you're not denied of evidence outright because someone spent 10 bucks on gloves. Generally people have a preference on which set of gloves they like for their style
