got a new computer and it runs terribly

so basically i got a new, pre-built "gaming pc" from currys. a bit cheap and the specs aren't GREAT but it was cheap so

BUT HERE'S THE TWIST
my brother got the exact same one for christmas.
it works perfectly.

for instance, in Gmod he gets 60/70/80 FPS average. i get 20. 30 if im very lucky. that's AFTER following the advice that's been pinned at the top of this forum.

his looks decent. mine looks like a bad roblox rip.
it runs squad, but barely
i haven't tried many other games yet but the ones i have are shit.

tl;dr help. i wasted £800 on a pc that SHOULD and CAN be a lot better

jesus christ that must be like 400+ markup on what it would of cost you to build it yourself OR MORE

have you downloaded speccy to check that you've got the correct specs
have you checked to see that you're running the gtx 1050 as your main GPU and not Intel Integrated graphics?
have you checked to see that your monitor cable is running into the graphics card hdmi and not the motherboard hdmi (which is how you use intel graphics)
have you checked your bios to see that the cpu is running at the correct speed?

does it have warranty?
you probably should of brought this up with pcworld shortly after you bought it, these things don't just magically happen its probably a hardware issue and by asking 3 months down the line it might make your claims less valid.

Plugging into integrated graphics is a really common mistake, it’s probably this

I see your problem right there.

But seriously, check to see if your DVI/HDMI/ToasterPort is plugged into the back of the graphics card, or the motherboard, if its plugged into the graphics card, check "Device Manager" and click on the item on the list labeled "Display adapters" to confirm you're using the 1050.

If it doesn't work, come back here I'd say.
