probably that bit where eli mentions the gman to you in ep 1 or 2, i think it was 2. something like "not him again" or "you saw him too?" and I think he tells you to be careful of him

so I'm guessing gman set up a contract with eli.alyx to save eli and bring together kleiner, barney etc and possibly give the resistance a boost

gmans gonna do some fucked up timey wimey shit is all I know - could be small scale loop tying and set up for ep 3 to have an easier lead in or huge balls to the walls this was ep 3 all along

alternatively the reason for alyx being recast is this is an alt universe and it ties in in an even more fucky way to hl2:ep2 hence eli's voice being different too along with no enemies matching up visually to hl2
