unless vr becomes commonplace and doesn't cost what most people earn in a month then vr will never take off
thats the entire point, HL Alyx is Valve pushing for VR to become industry standard no matter the price or entry point be it 150 or 1000, same with aspects and features of other main line HL game
a strong, cohesive plot throughout with HL1, Steam and heavy integration of physics with 2 and now VR with Alyx, Valve has always led by example and this time will be no different

that trailer is nut material

cant wait to spend the 2/3rds the cost of my pc on a headset to have the quality from the trailer though ughhhhhhh

Can someone show me one of these „200 bucks“ VR headsets? Everyone talks about them but I haven‘t seen jack shit about them.
they mean windows mixed reality probably

theyre not very good last I heard but they work so idk?

idk I'd really say spend 100 more on an oculus/vive second hand imo

Mixed Reality is still fully SteamVR and Alyx compatible though, its about allowing anyone to be able to play it no what how much it costs
the hope is demand will help drive prices down as VR becomes a part of gaming as much as plot driven games and physics engines are nowadays

Windows Mixed reality headsets work on Steam VR:

headset

Here is the HP one for $179 with controllers.

It will work, but it'll be kinda shitty.

I went with the 400 dollar HTC Vive route and later I got the index controllers.

This is a dream come true. As far as VR games go, this looks so well polished. So, so hyped.

If anyone has any VR questions, feel free to hit me up. As far as my recommendation for VR headsets go, look into the Oculus Quest or Oculus Rift.

Okay, stupid lore point that I'm actually curious about, I'm curious if the prequel will finally clear up if the water actually does make people forget stuff.

What would you recommend to someone on a budget? Should I look into the mixed reality thing, or should I deck out some more money for a Vive/Oculus? It‘s not like I don‘t have enough cash, but I wanna save as much money as possible for VR Games and stuff. I was also looking to get a new TV soon so yeah.

It was always kinda controversial as it's only mentioned by one guy in the train station, but I assumed it to be true too.

Do we know if any of this new lore will become canon on our server as well?

I'd love to see this happen.

hlvr is imo the only one outright worth buying vr for

you have ~4 months before it's out so start saving now for the games and get a better headset imo

I'd much rather have one less AAA vr game and a 90-120 hz headset than a 60hz cheapo headset for vr, would be trippy asf going from fluid vision irl to 60fps but then again my monitor is 144hz and I'm used to it atm so ymmv

sidenote: 144hz experimental with index too, though pushing 120 will be hard enough on my pc so

----

Also just found out HL: Alyx comes free with the index headset or its controllers & the following so I'm like 90% set on getting that now
Gun skins, SteamVR Home environments, and more
Customers who have purchased Valve Index hardware by the end of 2019 will have access to unique bonuses starting early next year:
  • Explore environments from Half-Life: Alyx in your SteamVR Home space
  • Alternate gun skins to embellish Alyx's arsenal
  • Special Half-Life: Alyx-themed content for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

I'd get the HTC Vive for 360 Euro. I have it, and I like it. Comes with two controllers and two stations.

Plus, if you want to upgrade to a Index or get Index controllers it's alot cheaper.

upgrading to index controllers gets you hl alyx for free so assuming hl alyx is £60 that effectively makes the controllers £190 if you were going to buy on launch anyway

personally going to buy either the index headset/controllers in december to get the free game offer then get the other bits in 2020

or i'll get both like a brainlet (wondering if I can let someone else register with the controllers to essentially gift hlvr though)

Do you know if you can use the controllers and shit on a relatively poor PC? Like - if you get a headset capable of playing it independently, would that work?
