It was before 9/11 and any other serious hijackings where a lot of people died

Typically plane hijackers were people looking for quick cash, and they typically got what they wanted which meant the crew really only were used as getaway vehicles and were typically quite safe

the hijacker would tell the crew to land in a country with low chances of forcing them back to their original country and send the crew on their merry way unharmed, sometimes with a little compensation for their troubles

This is a scene you've watched - or at least been recommended - plenty of times. I've never seen Band of Brothers, what I was expecting when this got churned up in my recommended was the same thing I'd seen hundreds of times. How wrong I was.
