hi, this is my event
This one's a bit weird to sum up and I never have, but I'll do it now to the best of my abilities, though I think it's more of an experience or a general atmosphere and that in itself is a bit hard to sum up but I'll try my best. But essentially, whenever me and
@Blue Wolf do events we try to pitch a formula of something that's never been done before. So for one previous event (not this one) we made an event character apply for the event, so everyone thought it was actually a player- and the betrayal came more naturally; one other event the players didn't even know what characters they were playing, etc. etc.
This one in particular was a bit niché because we had people apply with a character that had already died; I'd read a lot about the subjects of the moment of death, which really preluded the character I ended up making for Alplands. There's studies done on that last bit of DMT that pops in your brain at the moment of death.
In short, we were looking for a character who'd died in a boring or unceremonious way; and also one we could pull the most strings to make into a complete, and somewhat emotional experience.
the event itself
We started the event at the moment of death, the character who actually played had been shot by a cop for something he didn't do. We started him in a long, dark corridor that led into a foggy map, as if to say he was walking into the light. As soon as he was out of this dark propbuild corridor, we removed said props- and if he were to look back, he wouldn't see what he'd just come out of; just this big foggy map on the coast; wherein he'd walked into a building through a few puzzles.
Windows overlooking the sea had from one specific position in said building the perfect angle for you to see all the signs pointing into the ocean, as well as a few papers; this was really the idea of rebirth, a very biblical approach to something like this. He'd eventually submerge himself in the sea, which lead him to his own, boring apartment; an apartment of loops - every time he'd come around the corridors, something would change; until eventually a great big terminal would appear - one where he would be able to read about both himself and his friends. In essence, this was closure - and the fog of his mind slowly closed in on him, in that the corridors shrunk with a literal fog that pushed him inwards and retreated him to his apartment - loneliness and acceptance.
In this apartment, he found one last escape, again by rebirth - submerging himself in the bathtub of his place, wherein once more - he started the loop over, this time, a fainter; foggier loop. But we figured that since he'd now concieved the loss in his mind and understood what it was to move on, he would now be able to say goodbye. We'd since previously contacted all his old crew and friends OOC, who flagged on just as soon as we switched the map, something he did not know about OOC yet, and he finally got to say goodbye. They had a long talk, as if nothing had ever change - and this time, as he tried to submerge himself in the sea, he found that he was held up, a great big floor - he could simply walk across and his rebirth was complete - he ended by walking off into the fog of his mind, and accepting his last moments as his mind closed in on itself.
The event itself was really about closure, and the many tribulations of both fever-dreams and the acceptance, sort of that transition between panic and the final understanding. I like to think that even those that go scared into death in real life, find some kind of solace as their brain releases those feel-good chemicals, and this was an homage to that. It's a comforting idea.
Hope that made sense. Personally I think the thread only got rated so high because a lot of people thought I might bring a character back to life.
