Hey there. I am a little bit late but i really wanted to share my thoughts on this. We’ve certainly faced some stagnate times over the last few months and we’re in a position now where truthfully, the server’s outlook looks incredibly bleak. That being said, however, there is still even now a desire to move forward with the server and try to reach a consensus on what you, the player, wants to see from any future version of this game.
I for one am of the mind that Nebulous’ story with HL2RP is not yet run. Obviously, we’ve not achieved the development goals we previously set nor have we progressed in any way in the form of a story to accompany the server - which is why I personally believe that we should return to a more standard running of HL2RP, something similar to that seen in the first iteration of Helix.
Don't say this from malice but when I think you mention (those) maps, I think you aren't taking into account the context or what the server iteration was at that point and timeHey there. I am a little bit late but i really wanted to share my thoughts on this.
The problem with the server was that it didn't try to serve new things to the players while staying a traditional cityrp, instead it changed into a different thing, or IP, essentially losing its identity.
As a passionate fan of the Half Life games, when I want to play a roleplay server that is suppose to be set in the HL2 world, I don't want to see maps like rp_southside or rp_asheville chosen, because they don't resonate with the Half Life 2 universe. The same goes for the overall setting, I want a normal HL2RP server, not some experimental futuristic concept. I’m not saying this out of nostalgia, but Half Life already has a rich story that allows for so much creativity while staying true to cityrp, something like Helix 1.
The Russian server Postbellum is a great example of staying true to the source’s feel and look. Instead of overhauling the server and adding unnecessary HD models, they focused on the story without changing what makes the game unique.
to sum up, don't change what Half Life 2 is but build upon it.
Still, it isn't an excuse to use maps that were made for other types of gamemodes.Don't say this from malice but when I think you mention (those) maps, I think you aren't taking into account the context or what the server iteration was at that point and time
