I require some assistance on starting a Warhammer 40k army

So recently, I have been thinking on getting into Warhammer 40k. The only problem being that I don't know which army to select. It would be a favour if someone could give me some Pros and Cons on each army.

If you're new, I highly suggest Chaos Marines or Loyal Marines, they are all around balanced with good CQC and ranged units, heavy tanks and basically have the luxury of being the jack of all trades kind of unit.

Tyranids are horde based, most armies usually have 2-3 powerful units/squads (Depending on size) and tons of tiny little fellows to be the meat shields, if you like that kind of stuff, Imperial Guard/adeptus militarum are similar, having many weak units, but so many that it usually doesn't matter. Also IMHO IG have the best Armour in all of 40K, their vehicles are what makes them something to be feared.

Tau are very much a ranged focused unit, only really having one type of unit suitable for CQC, the kroot. So if you enjoy having powerful range but the melee ability of a 4 year old child then Tau is for you.

Necrons are slow but powerful units with decent cqc and ranged on must units, not to mention their complete ignorance of fear and such, or usually at least. They also have a few nice perks like coming back from the dead. Fun to play but, I rarely see any pro's using them.

Elder and Dark elder - We don't talk about those.

Let me know if you want info on some other races I missed out, 40K is my thing.

How about da orkz?
Orks are pretty fun to play, they're usually used as hordes, but not to the extend of IG/Nids. Having a bunch of slugga/shoota boys at the front while the Nobz are behind them, then artillery/tanks and such. You can customise their armies quite a bit and they don't really have much in the way of direct weaknesses like a race like the Tau would. They don't have the best range but it's good enough, and most units are competent in CQC too.

Yes they cost double as much because GW still hasn't made plastic models (but they've made Skitarii their own factions) but they're epic and fun to paint.

Or go Eldar if you want to lose all of your friends, currently the most broken codex in the game is Eldar.
Necrons is loads of fun, you can make your Overlord into a fucking beast with Void Reaper which gives you AP2 (no armour saves) and always wounds on a 2+, also it's Master crafted so you're gonna be rerolling one of your missed hits. And it's also Armorbane so it shreds through tanks.
Their units are really strong and their new Codex have made them one of the strongest factions in the game (second to Eldar) they can get 4+ Reanimation protocols which is basically FNP but for all your units and it is not effected by the ''no saves of any kind'' rule. Tomb Blades are arguably the best unit in the game right now. They're jetbikes, really cheap, Strength 5 AP 4 guns that are twin linked and they move really fast which lets them secure objectives easily. They also have Toughness 5 which is amazing.

All in all, if you're starting out I'd recommend Necrons because they're easy to paint and really strong in the meta atm. If you don't care about winning then go whatever you want, marines are overrated and I recommend you stay away from them because every fuck and their mother will be playing them in your local GW.
