Doing development stuff, just curious to see what some of the most immersive features you've seen on a server are.

The fact you can't see OOC names, best part most of the time, yet sometimes the most annoying.

inaccessible scoreboard apart from staff
(Minor exception being disp who can see cp and ota and themselves)
desc only changeable every second day
pts that actually matter (location pings for fellow team members of fellow team members)
CAB being unrecognized by default
Map wide recognition incase of broadcasts

No offence but these two sound genuinely horrible and not at all positive.

Unless I'm missing the appeal.

Have you ever had issues of ppl changing the desc the split second they run away?
No? That should condemn it and discourage this but its merely an idea

now the harder to explain idea: unusable scoreboard. Metagaming who who is if say only one guy of a faction is on you can very quickly determine who that person is, or to know if said leads are on to avoid detection and other things such as avoiding specific people to avoid fights etc.

this sounds terrible, people should be able to choose themselves if the recognise a board member. some citizens will be more politically involved than others and recognise them -- especially the higher ups.

Or new addition:
auto recognition for cab if they choose
but it felt weird during day one of my second senator that everybody on UU recognized me.

I've played with this and it doesn't affect my immersion at all it's just annoying to deal with.

In terms of features that immerse me that's hard to put a finger on, but I can think about times I've been immersed and what has contributed to that, but it's pretty off the cuff so sorry about the shit structure and random shit I'm thinking up.

I find that quite often movement can screw with immersion a lot, when you're sitting still or leaning on a wall and observing the environment around you it's much easier to get absorbed into it. But when you're walking around and bumping into players, walls and the rest of it you get reminded that you're in a shitty fifteen year old game. This is one of the reasons I like hubs for roleplay, where you have an area like the Grotto in i17 or a simple fire in the sewers were people congregate, sit still and engage in passive roleplay. A lot of what immerses me is involved in map design and layout of areas, despite all of it's flaws I remember being easily immersed into fakelands when people stopped jumping around like retards. The environment was open and there's lots of space to move around rather than tight corridors and tunnels, there's a consistent atmosphere, colour scheme and just general aesthetic and that worked well. And then there were a couple of places which were established as spots for players to congregate, and where roleplay could happen within the environment without disbelief being suspended by the constraints of the server.

I'm not sure if specific features will really effect my immersion, I've never felt more or less immersed due to the nature of the scoreboard or the inventory or whatever other schema type thing I have to do. The background things are what immerse me, much more subtly and less in your face than features that I've seen incorporated on servers for the sake of immersion.

I think generally making ooc things faster and easier help with immersion though, the faster you can get that out of the way and get down to the roleplay the more quickly you can take a step back and really experience the game. Because in the end that's the most important part of it, getting to the roleplay without getting bogged down in the necessary ooc stuff for the server to work.

sounds really bad, especially if you change up your clothing with your desc, or take your armband off or whatever more than once a day, which a lot of people do, even something like making a spelling error

the ability to have your model emote things like crossing their arms or sitting down in different positions
its nice to have a visual representation of some actions, even if it is pretty barebones

Turning off LOOC and OOC and choosing only use /its
this is bad real bad
you would need alternatives to tell ppl to stop if they are doing something wrong without sending every single one of them an individual pm

I turn off everything but /its when I want to play a deaf guy
helps you get into the character more when you actually cant see people talking, but turning it off for any other reasons really just doesnt make sense
