Patapon 2 is a game by Sony, established on the PSP (You can emulate it to your phone and you can get it on the PSVITA). It combines 2 important aspects -- rhythm (Kind of like QTE, but you control it.), and a god game (Where you command your army).
The game is in a silhouetted, 2 dimensional cartoonish style, and features the you, the player acting as a deity who commands an army of caricatured miniature tribal creatures by beating traditional talking drums (They emit the noise they make, kind of like Pokemon).

After the events of the first game, the Patapons are ready to cross the ocean in search for Earthend (A place where the Patapons believe to achieve eternal happiness). Unfortunately, an unknown creature crashes their ship and the patapons lose many of their units. The Patapons come across a new tribe called the Karmen (An enemy army) who try to stop the Patapons on their way to Earthend. The Patapon also meet the Hero Patapon (Original name is Kami, he's stronger than any other unit and has special features), a mysterious Patapon that has great strength thanks to the Masks he wears. This game focuses on the Patapons returning to their homeland, saving the princess, stopping the Akumapons (Another enemy force) and the Karmen, and their leader, Ormen Karmen.
In the game, you, the player, take the role of the "Almighty Patapon", whom uses the aforementioned drums to command the Patapon warriors and guide them to their path to reach Earthend. After you progress in the game, you command the Patapon army using four drums (The first one used is the Pon (The circle on the PSP). The first one recovered is the Pata drum (The rectangle on the PSP.), used to command your army to march (By playing Pata, Pata, Pata, Pon), and attacking (By playing Pon, Pon, Pata, Pon). The third drum is the Chaka (The triangle on the PSP.), which can be used alongside all previous drums to defend (By playing Chaka, Chaka, Pata, Pon). The last drum is the Don, used to help your army while on the field in many different aspects, using miracles by playing (Don, Don-Don, Don-Don).
Rhythm is /VERY/ important in the game, and if you play a command just right after playing a bit more previously to increase your combo, the game goes into 'Fever Mode', where your army become better at attacking, guarding and every other aspect.
Note: Performing a perfect marching command (Pata, Pata, Pata, Pon.) Does not have or give your army any special features, and doesn't help in any way other than keeping the combo and rhythm up and marching forward.
Note 2: Performing all commands except the marching and miracle command still initiates you hero's special class ability, whether his ability is defending, attacking or any other aspect (For example, performing a perfect defense command in fever mode while your hero's special ability is a special attack still counts, and your hero WILL use that ability. And performing a perfect attack command while your hero's special ability isn't supposed to give him more damage or if his ability is a special defense still initiates said ability.)
Note 3: Performing a non-perfect sequence still keeps up the fever mode, the only time where fever mode ends is when you either mess up a sequence or forgot/skipped a drum.
Note 4: Playing a drum at just the right time when trying to perform a perfect sequence emits a different sound than the regular non-perfect sound, and if you manage to play a perfect sequence, you hear Cymbals right after hitting the last drum.
1. If you perform a perfect defense command while in fever mode by playing the Chaka, Chaka, Pata, Pon in that order, The Tatepons (A type of unit, equipped with swords and shields), considering you put them in your formations, raise their shields and make them bigger, sponging up attacks and projectiles while taking way less damage, and protecting all other back-line unit types while they attack a short-ranged attack (Not the Tatepons).
2. If you perform a perfect attack command (Note, a lot of unit types still attack in a defend command, but their attacks are shorter and more close-ranged) while in fever mode, by playing the Pon, Pon, Pata, Pon in perfect timing, all your units' damage increase and they become faster, and their weapons and abilities increase as well. If your hero -- for example -- is a Yaripon (A unit type, equipped with spears), he will launch his spear and on impact, the spear will explode into a big green (I think) gas, inflicting major damage on all buildings, animals and enemies in the vicinity.
Some hero special abilities on certain unit types: If your hero is a Tatepon, and you perform a perfect command while in fever mode (Again, marching or miracle command don't count), he will go super-sayin and increase in his size, while granting all other friendly units on battle invincibility, as long as you keep up the perfect commands sequences and stay in fever mode. If your hero is a Yumipon type unit (An archer), he will launch a volley of arrows, and said arrows pierce through everything, inflicing collateral damage.
There are many, MANY more unit types in the game, and let alone your ability to evolve your warriors to have pro's and con's. I'm not gonna go through all of them.
The game has a TON of items, weapons and other supplies to help you and your army, each unit type has tens of weapons, each one with its special ability and carefully set stats.
With 37 story-line missions, let alone all other missions and minigames, the game'll manage to keep you busy throughout the entirety of it.
Back to the story-
During the course of a game, the player learns of a legend, that the world was broken and the Patapons ruined because a Wakapon broke the "World Egg". At the second to last stage, the player finds out that the Hero was actually the Wakapon who broke the egg, and that the Karmen tribe was the Patapon's ancestral enemy, knowing them as the ones who overtook the Patapon Ancients. The Patapon Princess was trapped inside an egg by Ormen Karmen, the leader of the Karmens, who plans to make the Princess his queen.
The World Egg was an important artifact that no Patapon ever even dared to open, however, it was a powerful sight to look at inside Pata-Pole. Ormen Karmen (the Karmen king) tricked Hero (a.k.a Kami) into thinking that the Princess was in trouble. He shattered the World Egg, hoping to save the Princess. But when the World Egg split, it made a portal that led Underworld demons such as the Akumapon, Garl(One of the bosses in the game), and Zuttankarmen (One of the beasts that the Karmen summoned) into the Patapons' world. From the Underworld, spurt forth the Evilmass of Adamance (A location in Patapon 3). After this, Hero put the mask to forget what he did, since the masks exchanges strength and powers for memories. The World Egg would continue to be unfixed until the Patapons came back with their god and Hero. After defeating Zuttankarmen, the World Egg was repaired and the portal to the Underworld closed. By doing this, the Patapons had restored peace to the land.

I, personally -- THOROUGHLY enjoyed the game, and despite having to farm, grind and backtrack quite a bit throughout the story, it never failed to tire me due to the game rewarding me by handing me loot and supplies each time I completed a mission, and the constant up-beat of the game and self-satisfaction of doing something good every time also helped me continue the game and still enjoy it. I strongly recommend it to get it on your phone due to its rich story, dedication, wonderful gameplay and the prospering diversity and variety in it, alongside the requirement to strategically think about how you'll set your toops, dependant on the mission you'll play on.
