So I've noticed most of us in the community have played or have a modicum of interest in the Pokemon franchise, and recently I've started a quest to complete one from each gen, so let's talk about it :D

pretty sure I've played heart gold, both diamond and pearl, black 1, black 2, plus abit of sun and moon

unova is still my favourite gen though, it's been downhill from then

sword and shield looked even easier than sun and moon - and with the pokedex cuts and other stuff, im really not interested in picking it up - and honestly with the way pokemon's been going - im probably not going to be buying a new pokemon game ever again

Every mainline entry except Black 2/White 2.

What was your entry to the franchise?

R/B/Y - I grew up during the height of the craze in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Which gen is best?

Honestly, hard to say. I like them all for varying reasons. I'm nostalgic for Gen 2 especially but they all have their merits.

Which game is best?

Same as the above, I like all of them and still routinely play through most of them now and again.

New games good or bad?

I personally like them. I SwSh had some backlash and it isn't perfect but it is still a huge step up for the series and a lot of fun. Plus it's based on the UK so how can I not enjoy it?

Man Mystery Dungeon is fantastic. I played through Explorers of Sky for the first time recently and it got incredibly dark.

i tried having a go at the first mystery dungeon for the GBA but i really couldnt get into it
are the others good?

heads up platinum is awy better than both of them honestly
distortion world blew my mind as a kid

im really not into the games past gen 5
the whole 3d model thing rather than sprites kinda killed the magic a lil for me, aswell as the pokemon bank and that nonsense cuz im quite fond of trading upwards the traditional way

Leaf Green and Y I've finished
Alpha Sapphire, Emerald, one of the Dungeon games, bunch of Wii games too, some fan-made ROMs too

Some Wii game but I can't remember the name

I'd go with Leaf Green - first playthrough is Gen 1 but once you beat the Elite Four you unlock further locations which contain Gen 2 and Gen 3
And best Gen itself? I'd go with 1

• New games good or bad?

Fun to play but the amount of features seems excessive at this point, anything beyond Mega Evolutions is just confusing
The training IV/EV stuff and the mini-games with cupcakes just seem like too much

• If you haven't played any, is there any game you're interested in?

I don't really have any interest in the newer games
I like the franchise and had a lot of fun with it back in the day but I don't consider coming back

Two whole fire types for the region and most of the Elite 4 and some Gym Leaders literally didn't have enough of their types to make a full team out of them.

but Platinum is by far my favourite both for nostalgia factor (my entry game) and cuz distortion world and Spear Pillar is by far the coolest areas in the franchise imo

got all the legendaries including event ones except Heatran rn

gotta say having not played gen 3 before LeafGreen was ngl pretty shite but Emerald was incredible

lets be honest here mate i am the clown who plays pokemon cuz i find the story and secrets of it fun and FR/LG has fucking none of it except for some parts of Sevii Isles

unlike S/R/E from the same gen which has plenty of secrets and story, parts of which even cross over into the next gen for a complete lore and origin story

HG/SS honestly stand as some of my favourite entries before they switched to 3D. It's such a massive improvement in every way except Gen 2's horrible level-curve, which it does nothing to fix. The strongest Pokemon you can grind off of in the wild are in the low 30's in Johto, so unless you spend hours grinding a good part of your team is gonna be under-levelled.

That being said the second half of the game isn't difficult at all by the time you reach it, so.

I think platinum and soulsilver where my favorite games, platinum especially. The first Pkmn game I played was sapphire when I was like 6 and I remember struggling to beat it with only one leveled up pokemon, but I did it! (Sacrificing souls to the max revive gods)

I pirated Pkmn Sword with my hacked switch and honestly it was ok but I wouldn’t spent money on it, at least not at full price, the best part was just the camp and the gym trainer music, the camp almost killed my hearth cause the pokemon are adorable <3

Pokemon white 2 was my first pokemon game and is still my favourite, i remember playing it so much and was so happy when i beat the elite four, currently have pokemon sun and have had it for about 2 years but i cant finish it, just isnt the same

Which games have you played?

Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team, Diamond, White and Go.
I probably would've played more, but for me at the kiddie ages, the thought process was
"Whoaaah, Diamond is amazing, an- uh, they're making Platinum now, and it's just a better version? Uhhm, I can't ask for the same game again..."
"Whoaaah, White was amazing, an- uh, there's rumors of Grey now, and there's gonna be B2&W2? Uhhm, more remakes I bet... (no I still don't know why I thought being second-numbered meant it'd be a remake instead of a sequel) I'm not gonna get anymore games."
Combine that with 1) the following games taking a leap to 3DS, 2) while all my Nintendo games were for regular DS, and 3) being lowkey bullied in school for playing Pokemon on my DS once (this was around the age of puberty, so a lotta kids were assholes about nerdy stuff), and I began to just look at Pokemon stuff without playing the newer titles myself.

What was your entry to the franchise?

Aforementioned Red Rescue Team. I was this close to starting my interest in Pokemon games through the mainline series when I was given an option for Emerald instead, but at that time I really wanted to play a game where I was the Pokemon.

Still worth it, the game was an emotional rollercoaster, and replaying some of it earlier this year got me a bit melancholic - also because a lotta the story probably went over my head back when I had next to no clue how to read English, lel

New games good or bad?

From what I've heard, the overall integrity has begun to show cracks. The devs are still trying, but whether there's pressure of decreased budget/tighter deadlines is what's causing the quality to drop, I don't know.

I can give a more in-depth retrospect about aforementioned games later, rn my mind's a bit scrambled.

I'm sad I was "too cool" for the series when Gen 4 dropped cause I missed a good era. Gen 5 was fun though, I remember that well.

Also lmao @Tinbe I went through that phase too. Then you get old enough and realise it doesn't matter, a hobby is a hobby. I'd rather be playing a childhood series I love than doing drugs or whatever.
