I think it's just too thin to work well when short.

Nah man, my hair is super super super thin where if I remotely sweat, my hair looks like I took a dip in the sea.
I suggest getting in between short and medium length with sides nicely cut.
Also, if what you say about your hair being too thin is true, don't touch any hair styling products, they just look fucking retarded on us mate.
