think that's a setting in sandbox mode u can change if u really do be carin that much

it is but it's not the default and most people just run with vanilla

i'd honestly go for a 95% fatality rate with bites, enough that someone could reasonably convince themselves to wait it out and see if they survive it

it'd also give people an actual justification for hiding their bites

They changed that in the new patch (I think), now as soon as you get infected even if you die you still get zombified. Maybe burning would still work? either way, if you get infected and want to get your items back (cringe) you can build yourself a barricade around you and KILL YOURSELF so the zombie stays there
