History:
Toxicity is a measurement of the degree to which a chemical substance can harm an organism. This term is also used colloquially to refer to behaviours that are damaging to yourself or others. Those who can deal with either are greatly admired… Fah’Eir was already nearing the age of greater seniority when the Combine forces violently invaded the Vortigaunt homeworld. Being far too old to fight back, and not having the ability to do so, Fah’Eir and his cluster fled the only home they’ve ever known. The borderworld of Xen was meant to be a safe haven between dimensions, and the only place close enough to flee to on such short notice. There, the Nihilanth- an alien who had escaped the Combine invasion of their own world before the Vortigaunts, enslaved the refugees, and subjected them to horrific abuse.
Vortessence is a life-force that makes up the fabric of the universe- connecting all living things. Vortigaunts are able to exercise specialised organs, known as “vortal cords” to manipulate this power. Fah’Eir had the power to remove toxins and other contaminants from a body or the environment, at a molecular level. Using this power, Fah’Eir was assigned to janitorial duties on Xen. He disinfected factory accidents and cleaned the sewage excreted by the industrial waste products made by the Nihilanth’s facilities. When not on forced work details, Fah’Eir spent all of his free time in the Vortigaunt slums, helping to heal those who got sick at work.
He ended every evening completely drained off his energies. Spending every day in industrial filth, and every evening curing the sick and injured took its toll on Fah’Eir’s mental health. Anger became sadness became utter resignation in the face of non-stop suffering. Then, one day, the so-called “Black Mesa Incident” occurred, and the Nihilanth ordered his forces to invade this new world, Earth, that had accidentally connected itself to Xen. Fah’Eir, a non-combatant, was forced to go with the initial invaders in order to ensure that Earth’s environment wasn’t toxic or fatal. It wasn’t, but that had little impact on the fact that the Nihilanth’s invasion was a failure.
The Nihilanth was killed, and Earth was discovered by the Combine; who proceeded to invade it immediately. Many Vortigaunts were killed or captured in the ensuing chaos, including the majority of the Nihilanth’s forces. Being of such an advanced age, Fah’Eir was deemed useless as a slave. He was instead shot and left for dead by the Combine, dumped in a sewer to rot away. They couldn’t have known that Feh’Eir had the ability to rid himself of any infection. He remained hidden, beneath the surface, for months while he recovered from his injuries. After many months, Fah’Eir was awakened by the sound of gunfire echoing in the sewer system. Running to the scene, he witnessed Human resistance fighters engaged in combat with Combine forces. Before the last Combine soldier died, he threw a toxic gas grenade at the Humans. Fah’Eir rushed from his hiding place and saved them with his Vortessence, clearing the toxins.
The Humans were extremely grateful for the Vortigaunt’s help, and admirably offered him a place in their base as a medic. A particularly religious Human began to call him “Raphael”, saying it was the name of a spiritual healer of the sick. “Raphael” had always gone with the flow, been neglected, and survived. Now he had the chance to act, to be admired, and maybe change things for the better…

Personal Relationships
@Provingmedusa
"I met Jury Two, an intriguing figure with opposing views. Despite my curiosity, I was cautious. His plan to join the resistance was cut short by a gunship, leaving me grieving and wondering about his true nature. I hope he finds solace in the Vort essence."
@FieldersNL
"Firebug. A remarkable warrior with an interesting personality and an amusing hat. They are a good friend."
@Anti-tankspy
"Hyun Yong-Sun... A valued ally. His wisdom dismantled the suppression device in Geneva's palace, strengthening our harmonious cause."
@DIGGA NOB
"I used the Vort essence to help my sightless friend Heima Alfasdottir regain her vision. She now shines even brighter, and I have no doubt that she will use her newly regained sight to her advantage."
@Tinbe
"Ah, you seek knowledge of Weaver? Their essence is that of a Vortigaunt... akin to my own.... Weaver is of great intelligence... and I am filled with gratitude for the moments they have guided me onto the correct path... They are a dear companion... a friend..."
@Kafe
"So...ko... The name is well-known amongst many... She is a brilliant healer, tending to the wounded on numerous occasions, even my own injuries... The very air would seem lifeless without her presence..."
@Mike65536
"Hmm, Elijah, a fine ally indeed, but his nature remains a mystery to me. The hour draws near, we should convene and converse."
@fabevil
"Your decision to confront Mearsheimer directly was unwise, as others had more important things to discuss with him. However, I admire your courage and recognize that you have unique qualities, Roger."
@bilack
"You inquire about Lennie? He is a worthy human, his presence amuses me greatly, and his physical form stands out amongst a crowd, in that yellow suit of his. It is an excellent suit, much better than those drab black suits."
