just haven't had the same satisfaction, always been bogged down in the politics of things since

borealis and republic were fun, but personally i didnt get as much as i liked out of them because of the balancing act you are responsible for when running a large event here, which is understandable but it makes me feel very tired

but the times when players moved things, back in those first few months, i loved that - i had no staff power, no one i worked with did, but i felt like we could still make big stories and stories that clearly still impact the server's culture today (baf, vlad, rossis, trolltown, etc.) as really strong artifacts of player agency that people still reference over a year later

but I'm not gonna lie, I certainly can't after all that was said and done.

oh this was the exact DnD game I talked about. Me and @GenericPlayer were out curb stomping someone, and my extra tired Ishmael came in to ask for water-making sure I did /mes about looking hella shook up, smelly , sweaty and with blood on my shoes. No one seemed to notice

Harsh truth: the ideas of an advanced resistance people want now are fundamentally incompatible with what made those early days so good and so memorable and even though it would be fully possible to return to if people chose it.

S2K wasn't an option, and guns were risky even if you had one. You had to make do, you had to take risks to get even basic weapons were valued and changed the game entirely. Nobody was interested in advancement that might impact them negatively (we famously turned down suits) and everyone was on the same plain at that point. The characters became memorable, as did the interactions, because nobody could just make the first move to quickly end a conflict without risk which left people time to grow.

Likewise, people were more willing to invest in CAB politics outside of the faction which lead to the Warrior of Xen forming and the Humanist supporters, aka the raging pussies, that opposed them.

It was good because nobody had anything. You couldn't segregate yourself off in a corner of the map, you had to get involved.
