If I have to pick a movie that legitimately changed my perception on things though it'd be Let The Right One In by Tomas Alfredson (despite there being a lot cut from the novel I absolutely understand why given the stuff the subject matter).

I hadn't really tried foreign movies before I watched that about nine or ten years ago and it is such a genuinely good film and is gorgeously shot. Surprisingly I don't hate the remake they did but they also added a bunch of pointless shit to appeal to people and cut out one of the most important parts that defined the main characters and their relationship (probably because it was too risky in America).

I still watch it a few times a year and read the book now and again.

t isn't super deep storytelling but you also aren't some movie connoisseur by shitting on them.
>Saying my thoughts on a movie
>Somehow makes me a wannabe movie connoisseur

This is some deep level thinking here

I didn't say you and I didn't name anyone in particular lol

I was more making a general statement that some people in general tend to shit on what is ultimately mindless fun for being mindless fun as if their tastes make them superior.

I don't watch many foreign movies, but Pan's Labyrinth and Downfall are the ones that have impacted me most.

Other than LTROI some of my other favourite foreign movies are from Italy, the 70's and 80's - especially the horror ones. A lot of them were made after Night of the Living Dead became a huge hit but before Dawn so a lot of the "rules" most people have their zombies follow just flat-out didn't exist and there's a bunch of super unique and novel concepts in there.

I went through a spate of being obsessed with those types of movies a few years back so I have quite a collection now tucked away. If I had to suggest some?
  • Tombs of the Blind Dead (the original and 2 are good. The rest suck)
  • Zombi 1 & 2
  • The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue
  • City of the Living Dead
  • Burial Ground: Night of Terror

absolutely love everything about this movie, it's definitely up there as an all time favorite. If you didn't feel emotion watching this movie, you're dead inside.

There's a video on Youtube about the creation of the movie, detailing some stuff about it and after finding out about how much passion was poured into making this work, it just makes my admiration for it grow.

I know, I've watched it

Still sad how it seems like Disney intentionally shafted the movie to avoid giving it a sequel.
