I enjoyed it
Had a far better portrayal of the Star Wars theme than TFA did imo.
It was also a good come back from rogue one as well, which was an absolute disaster (Maybe not for you guys, but it was for me) which I had slept through the middle portion simply because it was just too boring.
Snoke won't necessarily disappear here though, a sith lord doesn't disappear so easily.

since they're not sith affiliated, I still disagree that snoke's story isn't over yet.

as much as I'd love a SWTOR film, TOR is so huge you'd need to make like 3-4 films to cover all the important parts and to introduce all the characters correctly.

The problem with those is that they're all animated and it costed EA/Bioware millions just to put out cinematics that are a few minutes long.

You have to play Devil's advocate before getting your hopes up for anything Star Wars nowadays. Disney is a very typical corporate business model and you need to look at what would make them the most money.

Exactly why with The Last Jedi as well as the Force Awakens they've chosen to go for a much more family friendly adventure film than a more serious toned film that takes on actual topics. For example, here are a few lists of things to make films about that would achieve a legendary status in film making, and the Star Wars universe for years to come:

• Old Republic era
• Darth Bain era
• Very old ancient Sith era
• Jango Fett's origin
• Obi Wan's origins and adventures with his master before the Phantom Menace
• Anything Clone Wars

All of these stories which have an infinite amount of knowledge to be learned about them via comics or novels take on serious topics from rape, corruption, prostitution, family, honor, etc. If Disney were to make a film on these with an R rating, would they be accounted to as a legendary film by critics and fans? Absolutely. But would they make even half as much money as they would by making just another adventure film with a happy ending? Not even close.

Tell that to the facebook moms and their three year olds. The movie isn't for star wars fans dude, it's for kids to have some heroic figure to look up to, which is exactly what Rey is in their eyes.

But hasn't that been the case for every star wars movie? If I'm going to be honest there's never been a Star Wars movie "for the fans" - They're all about a brave figure saving the world from evil and their adventures on their quest. It's the most basic story ever to be conceived.

The extended lore, to me, is what everyone wants but it needs to stick to being specialised stuff for people interested in it. Imagine a Knights Of The Old Republic Movie; it would be fucking fantastic to a lot of us but to the other 100 million out there who want to see the movie for action heroes fighting evil people won't and you'll end up with a flop thanks to the majority of the viewers.

Tl;Dr Extended lore is what we like but it'd never work in a movie so therefore accept the movies for what they are and embrace the fan services in legends.

Revan's crusade against Darth Malek, anyone?

It honestly checks all the boxes.

• Enough flashback material to gorge a sequel, yes.
• Enough (opposed but varied) cast on Revan's side and enough Sith on the 'bad' side to actually showcase an actual conflict
• Throw in the Republic and you have the Rebellion against the Empire except the Republic isn't flying space junkers in the conflict
• Emotional and decent depth is possible with the story - would Hollywood use it to it's true potential? Depends on the writers.

I honestly found it better than force awakens

• Kylo Ren is still hard to take seriously, but less so than in the Force Awakens though I still wish they'd picked someone else
• Rey is still moderately annoying and I hate how she just randomly gets to acquire so much power from like 2 days of "training," also the chubby had no reason to be a part of the story other than (probably) "muh diversity"
• Why was that guy from Sicario in the film for like 10 minutes, like really why
• Captain Phasma still looks cool as fuck
• FInn was still cool
• Poe was still cool (why the fuck didn't he get jailed at any point though)
• Personally I though Luke's death was good, he shouldn't have to die in a dumb blaze of glory taking out some angsty teen if he doesn't want to - I though him being at peace was a good way to end his story - also
• I liked the red salt lake thing, it looked cool
• The rich ass city was pretty cool

Overall, average
Snoke was barely introduced as the villain in Force Awakens so you don't really feel anything when he dies (although it was p cool), and so was the red guard fight scene thingy

personally I'm not a big star wars lore fan but I just want a story which takes place in this cool universe without focusing on the resistance/the new order/the empire or whatever and just focuses on someplace else with other cool creatures and places and people etc
