hat opening street war event in I17 was straight-fire
my proudest event actually, even better than shipment 5
the story is as follows
snowl volunteered to do the opening event for linnteration. then he backed out - whole nother story there that i cba to get into
i say "fuck it i'll do it" half-jokingly but people took me seriously and i thought "yeah alright i WILL do it"
i get sent the original doc snowl made
the first like, 5 sentences were straight fire but the rest was just...yeah. like, gordon freeman was gonna slip on a banana peel or some shit idfk i cant remember
anyway, i suddenly had the sinking realisation that i'd never ran a full-server event before, i'd only done a closed server event to a grand total of 3 people and some schizo dream shit
i tried to do a write-up but i'm notoriously shit at write-ups and quite frankly, i hate doing them, i find it far easier and better when you just had the plan in your mind then tell people what to do
so i told people the rough outline of what i was gonna do, then i sat and watched apocalypse now
spent a week setting up the event server on each map we were gonna use
the night of the event i necked a 6 pack of beers and hopped on discord and ran it like the navy
pmuch, for those that didnt play it, the event was set in the destroyed ruins of i17 in the middle of a successful uprising. you were trapped in the middle of the action. you weren't combatants, you were humble refugees.
i originally got flak because i was adamant there were to be very limited number of cops but i wanted it to be distinctly different to any other war event where the cops become the soldiers and went all robocop. like, no, the district is in fucking ruins, any cop still alive there is gonna be on the exact same level as whoever else is hiding there and not actively fighting. if they were, they'd be on the frontline.
anyway
i told the staff to teleport people to rooms that i'd pre-designated as "start zones" all over the map, basically putting people in a barricaded room that was acting as a shelter from the bombing or whatever. they'd be teleported at complete random, and this paired with the hidden scoreboard meant that people were forced to interact purely IC and not just immediately run off with their ooc friends and start their GRAND PLANS. no one knew who they were talking to OOC, and it forced relationships and stuff - it worked perfectly from what i know
i made it clear these people had been sheltering in place for a few days and it's only really now that the shelling and fires had died down enough to make a venture out onto the streets.
there were a couple of rooms with like 20 people, some with only 3 or 4.
a lotta people actually stayed inside the safe rooms, they were perfectly happy just doing passive rp
there was still danger on the streets, people had to be vigilant, but the fighting had, by and large, stopped
anyway yeah the whole first day was essentially bringing some order to chaos and people trying to survive and find food, find their friends, find their loves ones, and ultimately get the fuck out of city 17. i saw one guy desperately trying to find his wife so me being me, i stuck a ragdoll in some rubble and made an npc char to tell him where to find her
it's a shame the narrative got completely destroyed after the first day, really. it fell apart a bit on the second map, i chose the wrong map for it quite frankly but also, so many people got the complete wrong idea of what was going on and tried to start a war
then we ended up on terminal 6 for fucking ages because the """"CUSTOM MAP""""" and the HUGE GAME CHANGING REFORMS that were promised were so delayed (on account of whoever was doing it being lazy)
so the whole thing just ran out of steam before it even really started
then it turned out they just wanted to continue the bog-standard occupation roleplay without any real changes so it was all a bit pointless (and they ended up wanting to do a mapchange to i17 lol)
didnt even get any screenshots i was so locked in traumatising people
